MAY 2018Greetings:

Breakthrough!

Breakthrough is a great word used in sports. Any play that changes the course of a game is usually called a breakthrough play. A breakthrough game changes the course of a team's season.

Breakthroughs do not just occur in the world of sports. They exist in every area of life. Medical research teams have breakthroughs, when after years of trial and error they finally have a trial that ends in success.

Negotiation teams, who have been at an impasse, have a breakthrough moment when both sides come to an agreement.

You struggle to find a solution to a problem and then it final comes to you.

Easter, the resurrection of Jesus, was a breakthrough that changed the course of time forever.

The lives of Christians today demonstrate that the resurrection is still changing people. It changes fear into love, despair into joy.

The resurrection changes people from being spiritually dead to being alive to God. It changes guilty condemnation into a celebration of forgiveness and freedom. It changes anxiety into a hope that goes

beyond the grave. It can change our sinful hearts so they want to follow the Lord Jesus, and the power of the resurrection is relentlessly killing sin in every true Christian.

Many Christians have a meager expectation of the extent to which we can today experience resurrection life and victory over sin. The resurrection is far from being something we only benefit from in the future!

Breakthrough in the spiritual realm is going from the ordinary to the extraordinary. We need to identify obstacles that keep us from a spiritual breakthrough and ask God to remove them.

Spiritual breakthrough will not happen if we see with human eyes; make bad decisions; lean on the past; count on the practical; rely on what we can touch; or depend on the known.

Spiritual breakthrough will happen when we: serve others unconditionally; allow our hearts to be opened; see in the spiritual realm; experience tears of joy and confession; rely on Christ alone; make decisions of faith bathed in prayer; serve Christ with reckless abandon; and have passionate, contagious faith.

Godspeed,

Pastor Rich

Music at St. Paul’s

Music ministries welcome YOU!

May is not usually a month that we think about starting new things, but please lend your music director an ear…

All of our musical groups; the praise band, the choirs; operate on an open door policy. No one auditions, and there is always room for more.

Consider that we have a choir member who comes to sing with friends on Thursdays but not on Sunday mornings. We have oth-ers who join for the “high seasons” (Ad-vent and Holy Week), and some who enjoy the summers, with no midweek rehearsals.

Consider that the praise band would love a rotation of members, because sometimes members have to miss a Sunday. And we welcome people to “jam” with us at re-hearsals, even if they aren’t ready to play in public.

Consider that the Children’s Choir has no attendance policy but welcomes kids to

come sing with us because praising God is important.

If you would like to help make a joyful noise but aren’t sure where you’d fit it, please speak with Emily or with one of our volunteer musicians!

And finally, if you do not feel a particular musical calling, please remember that Sun-day mornings are your time! Worship is the gift of all of us, tin ears and all, gathered to praise our Lord.

Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; let us exalt his name together. Psalm 34: 3
