FEBRUARY 2016Greetings:

Will you be one of the 8%?

I recently read an article that said, 68% of Americans participate in the tradition of making resolutions in some way, shape or form. By the end of January, 1 in 3 Americans have abandoned their resolutions. The article went on to say that only 8% of the individuals who make New Year’s resolutions successfully achieve them.

I personally don’t make New Year resolutions. That is not to say that I am perfect. Believe me I am not.

I admit there are areas in my life that need improvement and change. I just think there are better ways to make those changes and improvements.

The number 1 step is to ask yourself, What are God’s plans for me. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” - Jeremiah 29:11

When was the last time you consulted God and asked God to guide you in your resolution making process? When you sit before your calendar to plan your days, weeks, months, and year, how often do you prayerfully ask God if the activities you’re involved in are the activities He wants you to pursue?

If we all would be honest with ourselves, I believe we would find that we all too often make our plans, tell God what they were, and ask Him to bless our plans.

There are still 11 months left to 2016 so if you have already broken your resolutions or you have made your plans and then told

God may I suggest that you do things differently.

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness…” - Matthew 6:33

The truth is we focus on things that never truly inspire us to begin with OR we pursue things that God never intended for us to focus our time and attention on.

The key is to make spiritual goals:• deepen your relationship with God.• learn more about God.• increase your sensitivity to hearing God’s

voice AND obeying His Word.• pray for increased capacity to TRUST

God and follow where He leads.• turn your worries into prayer.• strive to grow and be more like Jesus

each passing day.

I have found by making such goals for myself that my understanding of who God is, His attributes and His character has deepened my relationship with Him and my relationship with other people.

There is no better time than the present to align our goals, resolutions and plans with God’s Holy Word.

May 2016 be the year where we measure our successes not by worldly standards, but by God’s daily blessings.

In Christ,Pastor Rich

40 %What would happen if your children went to school only 40% of the time?

What would happen if your children went to only 40% his/her practices and games? What would happen if your children went to only 40% of their dance or mu-sic lessons? The answer is obvious, their education would suffer, their play-ing time would be limited, and their tal-ents would not improve. So what do you think happens when the average attendance at Sunday school is 40%? We have a dedicated group of teachers whose heart’s desire is to share God’s love and Word with your children. They can’t if your children don’t attend.

Since my mother died at Christmas, it is a very lonely time for me – without family, without her, my best friend!Thank you so much for thinking about me and I have always though when things get really hard, God sends someone or something to show you He cares and is watching over you. You have proved me right. Thank you.

On Wed., February 10, the choirs of St. Paul’s and the Milltown United Methodist church will combine to sing two anthems together. Want to join us for the occasion? Talk to Emily about attending rehearsals at either church (our choir rehearses on Thursdays and the Methodist church’s choir rehearses on Wednesdays, so we may be able to accommodate your schedule)!

Holy Week music rehearsals

With an early Easter (March 27) this year, our Adult Choir will soon start to prepare for Holy Week! Beginning on Thurs., February 11, our rehearsals will be chiefly devoted to preparing music for Palm Sunday (March 20), Maundy Thursday (March 24) and Easter Sunday. We would like to have extra singers for any or all of those days! Rehearsals are each Thursday, 7:30 – 9 pm in the choir room.

Donating to our music program

St. Paul’s has two funds available for those who want to give money specifically for our music program:

The Music Fund pays for guest musicians, such as a trumpeter on Easter.

The Organ Fund, started by the Women’s Guild, pays for repairs and renovations to the organ.
