In September 2010, Franklin's second eldest son Edward Franklin was attacked by three people while at a gas station on Joy Road in northwest Detroit.A month prior, Franklin had to cancel her dates with Condoleezza Rice on their joint tour after breaking two ribs in a fall. In November, Franklin's doctor ordered the ailing singer to not perform until May 2011 after she reportedly spent a week in Detroit's Sinai-Grace Hospital for a 'serious illness' which was later revealed to be pancreatic cancer. On 9 December 2010, it was reported that the 68-year-old Franklin had been diagnosed with an incurable form of pancreatic cancer and had less than a year left to live.[

Aretha Franklin is one of the giants of soul music, and indeed of American pop as a whole. More than any other performer, she epitomized soul at its most gospel-charged. Her astonishing run of late-'60s hits with Atlantic Records--"Respect," "I Never Loved a Man," "Chain of Fools," "Baby I Love You," "I Say a Little Prayer," "Think," "The House That Jack Built," and several others--earned her the title "Lady Soul," which she has worn uncontested ever since. Yet as much of an international institution as she's become, much of her work--outside of her recordings for Atlantic in the late '60s and early '70s--is erratic and only fitfully inspired, making discretion a necessity when collecting her records.

Elvis Presley is the undisputed King of Rock and Roll. He rose from humble circumstances to launch the rock and roll revolution with his commanding voice and charismatic stage presence. In the words of the historical marker that stands outside the house where he was born: “Presley’s career as a singer and entertainer redefined popular music.” Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, on January 8, 1935, and grew up surrounded by gospel music of the Pentecostal church. In 1948 the family moved to Memphis, where he was exposed to blues and jazz on Beale Street. After graduating from high school

When Elvis was drafted for the Army he said, " I reckon I’ll be able to handle the Army assignment OK. I’ll do whatever they tell me, and I won’t be asking for special favors."When he was at war in Germany he met a girl named Priscilla, who he fell in love with. Seven years later on May 1st, 1967 around 3:00a.m. with less than a dozen people there Elvis married Priscilla. Exactly nine months after that on February 1st, 1968 Elvis became the father of a baby girl named Lisa Marie.    Sadley Elvis and Priscilla got a divorce. Elvis had more girlfriends though. When Elvis got into his older years he got fat.  Elvis went to bed at 6:00a.m. on August 16, 1977, taking 8 sleeping pills of varying types. Still not able to sleep, he made a phone call to "Dr. Nick’s" office. He asked a nurse for more medication; the nurse was probably the last one to have a conversation with Elvis. His girlfriend, Ginger Alden, who was over at his house woke up at 2:00p.m. She found herself alone in bed. Elvis made no reply to her calls, and she found him face down on the bathroom floor.    She raised the alarm immediately and Elvis was rushed to the Memphis Baptist

Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"We Are the World" is a song and charity single originally recorded by the supergroup USA for Africa in 1985. It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, and co-produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian for the album We Are the World. Following Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?" project in the UK, an idea for the creation of an American benefit single for African famine relief came from activist Harry Belafonte, who, along with fundraiser Ken Kragen, was instrumental in bringing the vision to reality. Several musicians were contacted by the pair, before Jackson and Richie were assigned the task of writing the song. Following several months of working together, the duo completed the writing of "We Are the World" one night before the song's first recording session, in early 1985. The last recording session for the song was held on January 28, 1985. The historic event brought together some of the most famous artists in the music industry at the time.

On June 25, 2009, American singer Michael Jackson died after he suffered cardiac arrest at his home in the Holmby Hills neighborhood in Los Angeles, California. His personal physician, Conrad Murray, said he found Jackson in his room, not breathing but with a faint pulse, and that he administered CPR to no avail. Jackson was treated by paramedics at his home, but was pronounced dead at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. While initial reports discussed the possible role of painkillers in Jackson's death, attention later turned to the medications he reportedly took for insomnia, most notably the anesthetic propofol (Diprivan).
