4-H Communication Extravaganza

Have you struggled with giving your presentation at your club meetings? Do you just read your information from a sheet of paper? Have you any idea what a working exhibit is, or extemporaneous speaking? What are the proper steps in

giving a good presentation? What makes a good poster?

4-H is known for producing good communicators; however, if you don’t take the opportunity to learn and practice you will not reach your potential. If your communication skills need some brushing up, here is a great opportunity for you. Join us for a Communication Extravaganza on Saturday, February 6, from 1:30-3:30 pm at the Extension Office. Come, learn, and practice a variety of ways to present your information in an interesting and informative manner.

Due to the fact that there is potential for bad weather in February, contact the Extension Office if you plan to come so we will know who to contact if the weather is bad.

LIVESTOCK INFO

Food Safety Quality Assurance Certification - FSQA Because 4-H’ers are raising animals that have the potential to be eaten they must go through Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) training to be eligible to show at the Muscatine County Fair and the Iowa State Fair. This includes the following species: beef, bucket calf, swine, sheep, meat and dairy goats, poultry, and rabbits. Certification classes are scheduled for:

Monday, February 22, 6:30-8:00 pm at the Muscatine Extension Office

Tuesday, March 29, 6:30-8:00 pm at the Muscatine Extension Office

Tuesday, April 26 (emphasis on poultry and rabbits) 6:30-8:00 pm at the Muscatine Extension Office

4-H’ers in grades 4-6 must attend a certification class. Those in grades 7-12 also have the option to test out.

If you would like to test out of FSQA, contact the Extension Office to set up a time to take the test. 4-H’ers in grades 7-9 take an intermediate test and if they pass they have met their FSQA certification until they are in 10th grade. 4-H’ers in grades 10-12 take the senior test and if they pass have completed their FSQA requirement until they have graduated out of 4-H.

To check to see when your FSQA certification expires, login to 4hOnline, click on the Go to Family button, then scroll down to see your member’s name. If you have been FSQA certified before your expiration date will be listed below your name. Sign up for the FSQA class you will be attending by calling the Extension Office.
