Tips for Taking Care of Yourself

1. Never forget that you are the expert where your classroom is concerned. This might seem small, but it is powerful. You know what works best for your students. Coming to a difficult situation full of self confidence in what you do will come across loud and clear.

2. Allow yourself to make mistakes. If you are wrong, admit it and graciously apologize. Parents need to know we are just people trying to do the best we can do every day.

3. Know your limits. Remember that they vary daily. Don’t be afraid to postpone a meeting. Wait until you are prepared to face a difficult situation.

4. After a difficult meeting, make a list of all the things you did RIGHT. Focus on one thing you wish you had done or said better. Don’t waste time beating yourself up.

5. Reward yourself. You deserve a break. After a difficult encounter, go for a long walk, talk to someone who makes you laugh, or listen to soothing music.

6. Remember—one hundred years from now, no one will remember today, including you. This puts difficult situations in a different perspective.

Things to remember about duties…

Bus Duty

1. Please be at the bus lineup area by 2:50pm. This will mean that your students will leave early with you.

2. Busses come and go quickly so please make sure students stay in line. We have found that having students sit while they wait is most effective.

3. Be sure to monitor the students’ behavior in the line. 4. When the bus arrives, walk the children to the bus.

Front Loop

1. Station yourself on the sidewalk in front of the office. 2. Watch to see that no cars are left unattended. 3. Do not allow students to enter a car until I is curbside 4. Watch to see that no student is cutting across the parking lot. No students should cross the car loop unless accompanied by an adult. This includes the parent standing in the parking lot waving to their child.

Back Gate

1. Station yourself just outside the gate. 2. Make sure students are exiting the turnstile in a safe and timely manner. 3. Advise parents that double or triple parking is not allowed. Once again, this year, we will be discouraging using the back gate as a pickup point for car riders.

MURRIETA VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT AGREEMENT TO RETAIN PUPIL IN KINDERGARTEN

The following parent/guardian agreementtoretain form is preapproved by the California Department of Education for use by school districts in compliance with the requirements of Education Code Section 46300(g). Signed forms for all retained children must be kept on file for three years as part of a school district’s “audit trail” for state apportionment (California Code of Regulations, Title 5, Section 16075). Note that the Department recommends against obtaining consent to retain until near the anniversary date of a pupil’s kindergarten admittance and that permission obtained unreasonably far in advance could be found invalid.

Name of pupil: ________________________________________________________________

Kindergarten attendance anniversary date: ________________________________________

Name of School official approving for district: ______________________________________

Information for parent/guardian

California law provides that after a child has been lawfully admitted to kindergarten and has attended for a year, the child shall be promoted to the first grade unless the school district and the child’s parent/guardian agree to the child’s retention in kindergarten for not longer than one additional year. This rule applies whether a child begins kindergarten at the beginning of a school year or at some later date, so that a child who begins kindergarten in January, for example, shall be promoted the following January unless he or she is formally retained. Because kindergartenage children often do not develop at steady or predictable rates, the California Department of Education recommends that approval to retain not be given until near the anniversary of a child’s admittance to kindergarten.

I agree to the retention of my child (named above) in kindergarten until ______________ (Shall not be more than one year beyond anniversary) (date)
