Patrick Johnson is a dual Olympian who grew up in Far North Queensland, raised on a fishing trawler. He began his athletics career in 1996 at the Australian University Games in Canberra. Wearing spikes for the first time, Johnson took out the 100m sprint and was spotted by then-AIS coach Esa Pel-tola. Just four years later, the indigenous athlete was selected to compete at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, competing in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. Johnson made his second Olympic Team in Athens where he teamed up with Adam Bas-il, Paul di Bella and Joshua Ross in the 4x100m relay, finish-ing sixth. Johnson has enjoyed Commonwealth Games success win-ning bronze in the 4x100m relay in 2002 and silver in the same race in 2010 as a heat runner.

Negative effects of spray deodorants.
Students, please, be aware of your use of aerosol deodorants when in class or even on your bus. In these enclosed spaces, others can and have been affected by the aroma (not everyone likes the smell). The other con-cern is the chemicals being released into the imme-diate area around you. With an aerosol, the fine mists of spray are easily inhaled. Experts have warned that inhaling chemicals from the aerosols can cause allergic skin reactions, head-aches, asthma and breathing difficulties (and fatal-ly—heart attack). The dangers are real. Students, think of others. It would be better if aerosol deodorants were left at home. Use roll-on deodorants instead. https://www.greenpeople.co.uk/beauty-hub/blog/the-dangers-of-deodorant-sprays Mar 5, 2014
Thanks to teacher Kim who has come up with a plan to reduce waste around the school.
Kim says, “Thank-you to everyone who has been encouraging their students to pick up rub-bish and a big thank-you to Aunty Fran and Aunty Kym for their great ideas for reducing the
rubbish around the school. Just a reminder, if anyone has bowls, cups and spoons they can donate to the school, it would be hugely appreci-ated.”
Waste Action at the Murri School
Food and drink will now be served in re-usable bowls, cutlery and cups. No more Styrofoam or plastic.
Students will consume food and drink sitting at the tables then place their dirty bowls and cutlery in wash tubs provided outside can-teen.
Poppers and Ice-blocks will no longer be served at the canteen.
Milkshakes will be served at a small cost each Thursday and ice cream in reusable bowls every Friday?
Need help with:
Ensuring students remain at ar-ea to eat then place food in bins. This needs to be spoken about each morning by staff.
Helping person on duty with stu-dents returning their bowls etc.
Food bank runs occur more regularly so the canteen can have more opportunities to make money.
More bubblers around the school.
Can staff please bring in bowls, cutlery (no knives or forks), cups.
Staff continue to talk about litter and re-sponsible environmental behaviour.
