::: Excellence in Microwave Synthesis
Multiwave PROMicrowave Reaction System for Synthesis
Multiwave PRO
Challenging technologyAnton Paar has been working in the field of microwave technology for more than three decades. Using high-quality materials and innovative solutions, Anton Paar defines the standard for top-level instruments.
The Multiwave PRO platform serves two groups: professionals in synthetic chemistry and trace analysis. This brochure focuses on the use of Multiwave PRO as a microwave reaction system for parallel synthesis.
One for allDo you need a small instrument for method development or a large instrument for the multigram scale? Now there is no need to choose: Multiwave PRO serves both. You can upgrade the system to cover different scales at any time by just adding rotors.
Save ressources by reducing reaction timesWhenever time equals money, microwave synthesis is the method of choice. Parallel synthesis with Multiwave PRO saves processing time in any scale. The combination of sealed vessel technology with reaction conditions beyond the boiling point of the applied solvent significantly reduces the reaction time.
Get in touch with your microwave synthesis system Multiwave PRO has an on-board PC which provides an intuitive and multilingual state-of–the-art software solution. Its large color touchscreen enables convenient operation and is easy to read from a distance. The standard Ethernet connection allows network printing of in-situ generated experiment reports. Data storage on an USB device is also supported.
Close to youFor the entire working life of your Multiwave PRO, specialists from Anton Paar are at your service. With subsidiaries and sales partners worldwide, you are close to an experienced team which speaks your language and provides application support and training.
Excellence in Microwave Synthesis
Variety of configurationsWith its diverse rotor types Multiwave PRO serves all scales from milligram to multigram synthesis in chemical laboratories. For your special needs in parallel synthesis we offer a family of high-throughput rotors in plate format together with well-established scale-up rotors.
➤ Reaction screening with a new dimension
The microtiter plates are made from silicon carbide and sealable. With this equipment you can process up to 192 high-temperature and high-pressure reactions at a time.
➤ Parallel optimization in different solvents
Rotor configurations utilizing silicon carbide allow the use of different solvents in the same experiment. With Multiwave PRO you can generate libraries with up to 96 members under utmost temperature homogeneity.
➤ Scale up at optimized conditions
Multiwave PRO masters the liter scale with 16 parallel multigram reactions using the identical protocols from previous reaction screening and optimization steps.
➤ Unrivaled special applications
Up to 8 multigram reactions can be performed simultaneously utilizing gaseous reagents or even applying near-critical water conditions.
Reaction Screening & Method Optimization
➤ High-throughput rotors for method development
Applications related to drug development, proteomics, forensics and similar research areas predominantly deal with small quantities.
A range of small-scale high-throughput rotors for Multiwave PRO perfectly match the requirements of microwave-assisted parallel method development.
➤ High reproducibility with silicon carbide
Using silicon carbide plates ensures the utmost temperature homogeneity in plate format. This significantly increases the reproducibility of chemical reactions. With these systems any solvent can be employed as consistent microwave absorptivity is ensured by the SiC plates.
➤ Plate chemistry at high temperatures and pressures
An aluminum sealing mechanism for the microtiter plates allows you to perform plate chemistry at elevated temperatures and pressures. This means the same microwave conditions can be applied for subsequent scaling up from the initial idea to gram-scale synthesis.
➤ Easy and efficient library generation
Your optimized procedures for valuable scaffolds or intermediates can be directly performed in the entry model, Rotor 64MG5. This economical configuration enables seamless preparation of up to 64 derivatives in one go. Focused product libraries can be quickly prepared in parallel in a single experiment employing identical reaction conditions for all building block combinations.
A Quicker Route to Your Results
Microwave irradiation is a modern tool for synthesis applications. The route it provides to your results is

Large-scale & High-performance Synthesis
➤ Scale-up rotors for large-scale parallel synthesis
The large-scale rotors for Multiwave PRO meet the requirements of multigram applications and high-performance synthesis. The vessels used for large-scale synthesis are modular and interchangeable, using the same vessel caps and liners. Opening and sealing Multiwave PRO’s rotors, vessels and sensors is quick and simple - just use your hands. This tool-free handling is unique to Anton Paar and simplifies this frequently repeated work step.
Precisely tooled fluoropolymer liners and seals allow the processing of various chemical reactions in solution and in solid phase. Thick-walled quartz vessels are available which withstand extreme conditions up to 300 °C and 80 bar. These are suitable even for near-critical water chemistry.
➤ Precise reaction control
An immersing temperature probe in a reference vessel combined with infrared sensors monitoring the external vessel temperature provide utmost accuracy in the control of reaction conditions. An additional hydraulic pressure system simultaneously monitors the pressure in all vessels of Rotor 8N.
The sensors are already installed and ready for use.
For convenient handling, the sensors transfer data to the Multiwave PRO controller wirelessly, so you do not need to connect cables before loading the rotor.
➤ Safe and smooth operation
Multiwave PRO’s high overpressure tolerance provides trouble-free operation even under extreme conditions. To ensure a safe working environment, pressure is released and noxious vapors are exhausted automatically before you open the rotor.
Efficient Scale-up
➤ Direct scalability up to the multigram range
All methods developed in the high-throughput rotors can be directly transferred to the scale-up rotors. With a capacity of about 15 g per vessel a productivity of approximately 200 g product per run can be achieved.
➤ Scale-up with low-absorbing solvents
To enable scale-up of methods utilizing low-absorbing solvents Multiwave PRO uses passive-heating elements made from silicon carbide. Adding these to the vessels enables efficient heating of mixtures containing non-polar solvents.
➤ Create a gas atmosphere in each vessel
An ingeniously simple gas loading system enables you to create a reactive or inert gas atmosphere individually in each vessel. Pressures up to 20 bar can be applied prior to reactions for safe and effective syntheses with sensitive substrates and gaseous reagents.
