Paul and his brother were each eating the same kind of candy bar. Paul had 3/4 of his candy bar. His brother still had 7/8 of a candy bar. How much candy did the two boys have together?

Courtney spent 5/6 of 3/4 of her total allowance on a hair crimper. What fraction of her total allowance did Courtney have left?

If Courtney had 24 dollars for her allowance, then at the point that she decided to spend that money on the crimper she must have only had 3/4 of it left, which would be 18 dollars. Since 3 goes into 18, 6 times, then Courtney must have spent 5 groups of 3 which is 15. Therefore, Courtney spent 15/24 of her total allowance.
