Montessori › Bâtiment 3, Campus Walferdange Tuesday June 10 2014 › 14h – 17h30 The Institute for Research on Multilingualism and the Institute for Luxembourgish Language and Literatures at the University of Luxembourg are delighted to present a one afternoon workshop with Professor Janet Holmes (Language in the Workplace Project, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand) on the theme of ‘Multilingualism, diversity and interac- tions in the workplace’. The workshop will begin with a keynote talk by Profes- sor Holmes on the topic of ‘negotiating intercultural interaction in the workplace’. Professor Holmes is a leading figure in sociolinguistics internationally, with an extensive research record on language in the workplace. She is Director of the Wellington Language in the Workplace Project, which has analysed small talk, humour, management strategies, directives, and leadership in a wide range of New Zealand workplaces. Her recent research focuses on cultural differences in workplace communication patterns between Maori and Pakeha New Zealanders, as well as the communi- cation issues and attitudinal challenges faced by skilled migrants in New Zealand workplaces. The keynote talk will be followed by shorter talks by staff members of the University of Luxembourg work- ing on further themes related to multilingualism and diversity in the workplace (Ingrid de Saint-Georges, Julia de Bres, Stefan Serwe and Claudia Seele).
