This system is new technology for some aftermarket garages and care must be taken when servicing the system – the correct length belt and the correct type of belt must be used! Today, there are many vehicle manufacturers whose auxiliary belt systems only incorporate an idler, and a belt. This type of configuration is commonly known as a “stretchy belt system”. Setting guide for a 2006 Peugeot 307 1.6 HDI (110 HP) with AC ONLY

1. Disconnect the battery and remove the RHS inner wheel arch cover.

2. On this engine, a sensor (located on the left of the crankshaft damper pulley) must be removed before the belt. Dismounting the old stretchy belt is simple – you just have to cut it.

3. Install the belt, taking care that the belt is positioned correctly on the various driven components. To make the repair simpler and even more cost-effective, SKF has developed a universal tool to fit most of the stretchy belts available (see below). Fix the VKN 300 to the crankshaft damper as shown, ensuring that the belt is aligned correctly in the grooves of the vibration damper.

SKF has developed a single, reusable fitting tool – VKN 300. This tool is supplied in a tailored and impact resistant box, including specific mounting instructions.

5. Observe the point at which the tool reaches the end of travel, so as not to damage the belt. Remove the VKN 300 and further rotate the engine another 2 complete revolutions. Check that the belt is correctly aligned on the tensioner, crankshaft damper, A.C. pulley and the alternator pulley at all times during installation.

4. Take care that the belt is aligned correctly on all pulleys and rotate the crankshaft, in the direction of rotation stated in the vehicle manufacturers guidelines. NEVER reverse the rotation of the crankshaft retaining bolt!

6. Failure to check the complete system alignment, could result in engine damage. The picture highlights misalignment on the alternator pulley (FAPU) and the idler (VKM 33132).

Note: Always follow the vehicle manufacturer’s guidelines when replacing the auxiliary drive system.
