C V E ' s electron beam welder

Electron beam welder Cambridge Vacuum Engineering Co Ltd, have added a new low-priced electron beam welder to their existing range. The new model is designed for the welding of com- ponents up to about 5 inches in diameter, on a repetition basis eg transducers, bellows, diaphragm capsules, encapsulated relays, switch contacts, instrument compo- nents etc. The new unit is built from stan- dard parts and many of the accessories available are the same as those used in the more powerful models in the rest of the Company's range. The machine represents a further step in the development of simpler equipment for use by less skilled personnel for production applications, and is backed by years of experience in the development of equipment and applica- tions in electron beam welding. Character- istics of the machine include: 30 Kv, 20 mA stabilized power supplies; triode self accelerated gun; horizontal and vertical manipulators; chamber 8 inches long by 6 inches diameter; pumpdown about one minute; other chambers for small compo- nents with pumpdown less than half a minute; beam programming available as optional extra; stereo binocular viewing standard; and coaxial (down the beam) monocular or binocular as optional extra. The price of this new machine is around £3750 ex works. Cambridge Vacuum Engineering Co Ltd, UK Circle number 49 on Reader Enquiry Service card

Multi-hearth electron beam gun .... ..... Sloan Instruments have announced the availability of their recently developed electron beam gun which permits evapora- : tion from four different sources without breaking vacuum. The water-cooled hearths measure ] × 1 x ~ inches deep. The hearth platform is mechanically rotated exposing the selected hearth while shielding protects

the others from contamination. The 6 kW, 180 ° bent beam gun incorporates beam positioning and sweep by electromagnet. In operation with the Sloan EB Power Supply, the gun is capable of evaporating in excess of 5000 A of aluminium per minute. The small overall size of 4½ x4~ x 4~ inches allows location within the average vacuum chamber. Sloan Instruments, USA Circle number 50 on Reader Enquiry Service card

Particle drop-out trap for vacuum gauge tube Hastings-Raydist Inc, USA, have intro- duced a new Particle Drop-out Trap, type DO- l , which can be used with all vacuum gauge tubes having a ~t-inch NPT fitting. The trap is designed to protect the tube from particles, evaporated metals, and other system contaminants. Constructed in monel and nickel plated brass, it con- tain,; the equivalent of eight 90 ° bends, providing an effective optical baffle, and may be cleaned with steam, air hose, ultrasonics or solvents.
