DESIGNER: PAOLAI started Mujus in 2011 after workingfor years in finance, with the desire todo something more fulfilling andmeaningful, and give back to mynative country of Peru.

With that in mind, I put my New York lifeon hold to travel Peru in search ofinspiration. In my travels, I discoveredcommunities who use amazonian seedsto handmake beautiful jewelry andstudied with these artisans for monthsto learn all I could. Our partnershipbecame the birth of Mujus, a name thatmeans 'seed' in Aymara, an ancientlanguage of Peru

Our small studio started in Peru with only two artisans. Two years later,Mujus works with 34 different artisans throughout Peru and has recentlystarted working with an artisan community in Ecuador. Our dedicationto exclusively use organic materials and give back to the artisans wework with has never changed. Mujus prides itself in using onlysustainablematerials of the highest quality, providing educational opportunities,benefits and fair wages to all our wonderful artisans.

I hope you enjoy this small piece of my history-- one that has become alarge part of my heart.

When ripe, the tagua fruit falls to the ground and is gathered and driedby local communities for a period of up to eight months, after which theybecome extremely hard and ivory-like. Since the seeds are harvestedafter they have fallen to the ground, there is no damage done to therainforest during the harvesting process.

our materials: 100% earth friendlyMujus signature material is the Tagua(tag-wah) seed. Tagua, also knownas vegetable ivory, originates from apalm tree that grows in the Amazonrainforest.
