Byler, chairman of the GOP's 2nd Congressional District Committee, denies any knowledge ofspreading the information: "I would absolutely, positively never involve myself in negativecampaigning," he said.

"It's nothing I'm shopping. I'm all about the issues."

The images were peddled to the media - a paid Byler consultant provided the Facebook screen grabsto The Virginian-Pilot in an April 1 email. The newspaper didn't report on them at the time, deeming theinformation questionable.

It appears they also were shopped to politicos. Bill Dale, the Democratic candidate in the 85th District, said he received an email a few weeks back offering similar information about Taylor for $500.

Dale said he forwarded it to Taylor's campaign, then deleted the message, which he says came from afemale sender he didn't know.

"That is not the kind of politics I want to be involved with.... And I certainly wouldn't stoop to that kind oflevel in any campaign," he said.

Jeremy Waters, another Republican in the race, said that he heard about the rumors but that, like Dale, sought to distance himself from them.

"I've done everything I can to steer clear of all that," he said.

Instead of letting it go, Taylor is making a political gamble by taking the offensive against Byler.

Taylor says Facebook images showing him conversing with the woman said to be a prostitute aredoctored. He says he had no knowledge of her, or online messages she purportedly sent him, untilrecently.

The woman, whose name the newspaper is withholding, told The Pilot that her Facebook account wascompromised and said she didn't send the disputed messages to Taylor.

She denies having any physical contact with Taylor or offering to sell her story for cash, though sheadmits to having been involved in the sex trade.

According to Hampton General District Court records, the woman has a conviction for marijuanapossession dating to 2011, as well as some traffic citations.

ONLY THING GOODSubmitted by Chesapeaken on Thu, 04/25/2013 at 9:25 pm.

The only thing positive that could come out of this for Taylor, which he will never follow through onsince he has failed at life. The only thing that would be a positive for him would be that he is actuallya plaintiff in a lawsuit. He has been nothing but a defendant since 2003.

BYLER IS MUCH MORE OF A DEFENDANTSubmitted by hwatkins on Thu, 04/25/2013 at 10:52 pm.

Go on the courts websites. Byler has been charged with many traffic cases on the eastern shoreand in Virginia Beach. He's even been charged a couple of times with failing to appear in court forhis clients.

This is all public record, anyone can look it up:http://epwsgdp1.courts.state.va.us/gdcourts/captchaVerification.do?landing=landing

Fascinating stuff, I'm now looking up other famous and infamous politicos.

RATIOSSubmitted by Chesapeaken on Thu, 04/25/2013 at 11:00 pm.

And how old is that guy? About 70 or so? So his record in 70 years is less than 1 percent of all ofScott Taylor's at age 30.

The last time I checked Gary Byler did not have a DUI, nor has he had his license suspended orrevoked, nor has he foreclosed on any properties here in the district. The same would go forJeremy Waters, he is squeaky clean

GOOD FOR YOU SUPPORTING YOUR GUY REGARDLESS OF THE FACTSSubmitted by hwatkins on Thu, 04/25/2013 at 11:12 pm.

I have no idea how old Byler is, I've never met the guy. But he clearly has driving problems andobviously has blown off court to his clients' detriment.

And the stuff on this website looks like it only goes back about 10 years. So in the past decade,Byler has been caught breaking various laws about a dozen times on the eastern shore and inVB. You make a good point, I wonder what else is in Byler's record that exists only on paperand not on the web?

I AGREESubmitted by Chesapeaken on Thu, 04/25/2013 at 11:18 pm.

We should take all four of them and set them side by side on paper to see how they measureup. No two party system, no primary, just a vote with all of the cards on the table. All electionsshould be run that way, it should be the Pilots obligation to report your and my findingsinstead of nonsense about Facebook and hookers.

Let me get this straight, everyone in the race received the same information from the same girl--yetScott Taylor is blaming Gary Byler who will likely be the candidate to win? Okay, right, that makes alot of sense to go after the frontrunner. If I remember correctly Gary Byler is an experienced trialattorney.

Bogus Pilot reporting. Do the papers ever credibly check using legitimate resources, or do they justplay "hooker says"? There are ways to find out if the postings were real or not. Then you don't haveto play his word, against his, against his, against hers...just finally get up and do some investigativereporting.

BEST THING ABOUT THISSubmitted by BayBridgeBreeze on Thu, 04/25/2013 at 9:42 pm.

The best thing about this whole nonsense is it highlights the stupidity of Scott Taylor. "I am going tobring a civil suit for damage to my character." Well, Mr. Taylor, who damaged your character? Youare the one who is highlighting this. Anyone around this area already knows your reputation. Give ita day to get to the girls at Atlantis and there are sure to be others who have similar Facebook posts.

PLEASE!Submitted by vabeachlife on Thu, 04/25/2013 at 9:53 pm.

Can someone please put Scott Taylor out of his misery? His head is so big it's ruining the oceanview of our lovely community. This kid is a disaster, the last thing we need is him representing anyof us anywhere. I wouldn't trust him to hold a crosswalk sign in front of my children's school. Thosewho have no control over their life cannot, and should not, try to make decisions for others.Republican/Democrat/Libertarian it does not matter. Taylor through and through does not have thereputation or ability to represent our community.

READ THE STORY - BYLER CAMPAIGN IS DEFINITELY INVOLVEDSubmitted by hwatkins on Thu, 04/25/2013 at 10:41 pm.

Story clearly says that a Byler staffer tried to get the Pilot to run the "story" months ago and the Pilotrefused because the evidence was questionable.

At a minimum, Byler should fire that staffer. And if this was done falsely and intentionally on theInternet, the Feds will be involved.

Out of the three running for the republican nomination, I'm leaning towards Taylor. But I think Dalebeats any of them in November.

You definitely exhibit the narrow mind of a Scott Taylor vote. It "clearly says" is the problem withthis article. Someone, anyone, find evidence! Have Scott Taylor open up his Facebook to a personexperienced in computer forensics, same with the computer it allegedly originated from.

Pushing a story "months ago"? Obviously that dog died, and it was buried, why is Taylor bringing itup now?

Yes, but of course, the FBI, because this is the stuff they give a damn about. I am pretty sureAnthony W*!ner's w*!ner is still on the FBI's ten most wanted list. Do you think before you speak?

PLEASE READSubmitted by hwatkins on Thu, 04/25/2013 at 10:58 pm.

Taylor did not push the story earlier, it was Byler's people who did. The paper obviously saw itwas fake and didn't run it.

Since Taylor says in the article that he has contacted the authorities, I'm sure he is providingaccess to his computers freely. Want to bet if Byler will do the same?

By the way, as I said in my previous post I am probably a Dale voter in this race.

SILLY LITTLE MANSubmitted by vabeachlife on Thu, 04/25/2013 at 11:07 pm.

Again, think before you speak, your words may actually make sense. If Byler's people pushedthe story months ago IT WENT AWAY! They ignored it and refused to write about it. Over, done with, fin! Then Scott Taylor brings it to light? Why? It was already gone! If they did bring itto the Pilot the Pilot told them "no thank you" and it was slipped under the rug. Taylor is the onenow who is pushing the Pilot to post it, not Gary Byler's camp.

Yeah, sure Taylor has contacted the authorities, what are the charges? You are talking aboutthe same guy who doesn't know the law from a whole in the ground. Someone get aCommonwealth's Attorney in on this and let us know what the charges are.

Is the article not clear that the Byler campaign was involved? They pushed the story? His peoplecontinue to try to smear Taylor. Why don't they simply show where the documents came from? Thestory says the paper got them from the Byler campaign. Why don't all you Byler trolls ask hiscampaign to show where the fabrications came from and explain why they tried to send them out tothe paper?

NO, IT IS NOT CLEARSubmitted by AmericanPatriot43 on Thu, 04/25/2013 at 11:37 pm.

That is not clear from the story. If something was given to the Pilot by anyone a long time ago,why bring it up now? It is Scott Taylor's burden of proving that the allegations are false, that'sPolitics 101.

The same tealacky who, with the help of old GeeDub admin schleps, tried to switft boat BHO withrediculuous charges regarding the OBL raid. BHO said before the election that he was going afterOBL. And he did. This presented a big problem to the GOOPTers, and in came Taylor and the Rovemoney. They tried to do what they did to Kerry. These lowrenters hoped that the public wouldconfuse THANKING our troups with "taking credit". Sad stuff. Dispicable actually. The interestingthing on the OBL news, google "Keith Urbahn OBL twitter rumsfled" and youll find that Rummyschief of staff spilled the beans. Funny that. Taylor should have been calling out Rummy. That aloneshould preclude anyone from casting a vote in ST's direction.

Let us not forget how much money Taylor made off of the original supposed leaks. Going againstthe Navy's and UDT SEAL's instruction after the raid. Continuing on to the Discovery Channel andbeing the embarrassing talking head of ST6. Pulls in money for his bogus political pact pissing offthe Generals yet again. At least his actions outside the military of being a bad soldier mimic theones when he was a bad soldier in the Navy. Watch out Scotty, next time we'll get you handrails toget on and off of the chopper!

How dare you write such horrid garbage about Scott. I've had the HONOR of knowing and servingin the SEAL Teams with this great American since we were both 18 years old (15 years). I can trulysay that there is by far no better man to lead us in ANY political position, let alone this one. Afterreading some of the trash posted by the Byler gules "ChesaPenis, et al," my blood was boiling!Scott is a true Patriot who lives a life of integrity and has done/does more for this country than mostreading this could ever fathom. TRASH TALKING POLITICAL CAMPAIGNSubmitted by linc86 on Fri, 04/26/2013 at 3:42 am.

I can't believe it has gotten down to gay vs. straight? And, holding against someone that they are achild out of wedlock? That says more about their parents not them! John Hamilton, the firstTreasurer of the United States, I believe was a child out of wedlock. Did that make him any less of agood treasurer? How can you ever hold such things against a person.....being gay or straight isaccepted now by most churches, as the way one is born. You can't hold being out of wedlock or gayagainst a person........that is like hating someone because their eyes are blue. It is the quality of theindividual, their ethics, do they do what they say...follow through etc. I really hoped we were beyondsuch ignorance.

TRASH TALKING POLITICAL CAMPAIGNSubmitted by linc86 on Fri, 04/26/2013 at 3:51 am.

Correction: It was not John Hamilton but Alexander Hamilton and he was born out of wedlock inthe West Indies. Again, being born out of wedlock or being conceived out of wedlock is not theshame of the child and should never be held against the individual! WHAT?Submitted by stanleywindley on Fri, 04/26/2013 at 7:26 am.

Where is the homosexual allegation at? The having a child out of wedlock was touted by Taylorhimself in his very own email blast. To my recollection, that was several months ago past thegestation period. Taylor has yet to say anything since then. Any normal person would be proud tohave a baby. Instead, Taylor has been trying to cover it up. It does say a lot about the parents:Scott Taylor is a horrible father.

MR. TAYLOR NEEDS TO WITHDRAW PREMATURELYSubmitted by Howar12d on Fri, 04/26/2013 at 6:04 am.

Time for Mr. Taylor to withdraw from the race. Like Mr. Wiener of NY, who claimed his twitteraccount was hacked, Mr. Taylor's false claims don't ring true.

The voters deserve honesty Scott.

I'll wait for the investigation to get completed.

No investigation or follow-on legalities means there isn't enough here and reflects poorly upon theone making the most noise.

All I read was rumor, innuendo, smear tactics, negative campaigning...and an early start to grabattention and some better footing.

but considering the way campaigns are run? You gotta be an insider. A shaker and a mover.Someone who hobnobs within the respective party elite or the businesses which stand to gain themost by having "their guy" in office.

Those who could do a much better job don't want their past, as well as their family member'shistory, scrutinized and broadcasted by a horde of vindictive (bleeps) for months.

Campaigns require a buttload of money...which means the candidates need to slurp for donations. We each know men and women who could do a better job, yet they'd be spending an inordinateamount of time brushing their teeth afterwards just to get the bad taste out of their mouth.

NO, ACTUALLYSubmitted by Speedo on Fri, 04/26/2013 at 10:37 am.

There are plenty of people with good reputations and accomplishments -- civic, business, education -- but they're not running.

However, I do not support nobodies. The notion that someone who is well connected or wellknown is somehow compromised is ridiculous. Grow up. That David vs. Goliath stuff is b.s.Campaigns require money indeed. What doesn't? If you can't raise any money and can't appealin any other way, then you're gonna lose. Good. The last thing we need is more folks with noaccomplishments, no resume, no friends, no experience, and nothing but a lifetime ofresementment. In other words, nobodies. Anonymous is quite the apt moniker.

TRUST NOTHING ON FACEBOOKSubmitted by joanm18327 on Fri, 04/26/2013 at 7:32 am.

If someone can hack twitter, they can hack Facebook. Or, they can post a phony identity. CheckFacebook for the name, Tsarnaev, for example. See the phony postings. If, in fact, Byler's"consultant" promoted this story weeks ago, that say something about Byler's wisdom about hischoice of consultants. Now, I'm not promoting randy behavior by anyone running for office, but giventhe list of Republican or Democrat elected officials who survived such allegations and, yes, evenbehaviors, I'd say it would be naive to think any of us has been Simon pure. One only has to recallthat Rick Santorum chose a life partner who, before Rick, lived with Pittsburgh's notorious abortiondoctor, but her past escapades were set aside when Rick ran.

TAYLORSubmitted by baseball12 on Fri, 04/26/2013 at 7:32 am.

I really don't care where the information came from and frankly this is Mr. Taylors private businessbut when he runs for office and wants to make laws and tell us what to do it because our concernand public information. Why is this man keeping company with someone who is in the sex trade? Even if he didn't do drugswith her? He is calling on Byler to withdraw.. Well pot call kettle black? This man needs to lookhimself in the mirror and tell himself that.I have followed his campaigns since he ran for Mayor and Congress. The pilot did an article askingif he was running for office to meet women because he had questionable women on his campaignsites. He is also the same candidate who took information from Rigell and said it was his.

MIGHT BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT!Submitted by AlexRogan on Fri, 04/26/2013 at 8:20 am.

That is how Obama won his first statewide election in Illinois to become a Senator. He used somegood old Chicago politics, got Jack Ryan's divorce records unsealed and sat back and watched thecarnage. The Republicans put Alan Keys at the last minute and Obama won easy, went on to give agreat speech at the DNC convention and was thereafter anointed as a superstar.

Without mudslinging the political landscape would be far different.

CORRECTION: IT'S WAS RYAN'SSubmitted by Esau on Fri, 04/26/2013 at 8:28 am.

Correction: It's was Ryan's Republican primary opponents who urged release of his divorcerecords. A judge finally agreed, but they were released after he won the primary.

candidates, I find this completely out of context with the gentleman I know. Each have a deep desireto honestly serve the constituents of the 85th district, and candidly, find each worthy ofconsideration. I can only rationalize these aberrations the product of over zealous supporters oreven consultants. My personal choice to serve my interests in the 85th, of which I reside, is Mr.Byler. Although I differ on his stance on a few issues, his acumen of the political process andpersonal rapport with sitting legislators assure effective representation of the 85th district.

WALLYSubmitted by hwatkins on Fri, 04/26/2013 at 12:39 pm.

Byler is probably the "establishment" choice. But don't you think that Dale has the upper hand inthis race in November?

SO, NO HOLDS BARRED?Submitted by Speedo on Fri, 04/26/2013 at 2:03 pm.

C'mon, Wally -- the contention here is that Byler FABRICATED this exchange between Taylor andthis woman. Doesn't seem to fit your knowledge of him? Ever think maybe you were duped?

The notion that someone's campaign "staff" -- which is probably one, maybe two people -- woulddo such a thing in a puny House of Delegates primary without the candidate's knowledge isabsurd. And if true, in my view, would immediately disqualify Byler from any public service. Youcan argue all you want; but you don't get to make things up to impugn someone's character. I don'tgave a rat's patootie about your impressions of them. Did Byler's campaign fabricate thisFacebook exchange to smear Taylor? The Pilot should investigate. The cops, too.

a man's character isn't always what it appears to be. While they may do an outstanding job ofoutward appearances, sometimes what happens behind closed doors is quite the opposite.

Joe Paterno, Jerry Sandusky are two examples.

of your political enemies.Divide and conquer tactics are the weapon of choice this WH and their party ; if you two guys figurethat out then you're BOTH to immature and dense to run for office.

Grow up and deal with the issues NOT each other.

I LIKE SCOTT TAYLORSubmitted by Chill Mode on Fri, 04/26/2013 at 11:20 am.

I've heard Scott Taylor speak a couple years ago and I can think of no other politician whoarticulates my own values as accurately as he does. Scott Taylor is an advocate for State's Rights, that's exactly what we need in Richmond. Washington is out of control, the state governments areour only recourse to getting this country straight again. Reckless driving? don't care. Child out ofwedlock? don't care. Any other personal matters, don't care. I vote based on the public issues, noton personal issues. Scott Taylor rocks, we need more politicians like him.

THIS JUST VALIDATES MY OBSERVATIONSubmitted by Makarov 918 on Fri, 04/26/2013 at 12:17 pm.

regarding public office. I can't understand why any decent person, regardless of party affiliation, would chose to subject themself to the personal muckraking, deserved or not, that is now the normin U.S. politics.

Wouldn't it be refreshing to have a politician just articulate their position on the issues and leave it tothe voters to make a decision.

YOUR LOGIC IS OFFSubmitted by vabeachlife on Fri, 04/26/2013 at 3:30 pm.

If logic says any particular camp is involved in this mess it is the Scott Taylor Campaign. It saysthis "girl" contacted all campaigns with the information. No one ever printed it until now, at ScottTaylor's request.

No one leaked this information except for Scott Taylor himself.

So tell me Mr. Logic, what is logical about leaking a story about yourself, and prostitutes, andillegal drugs? And THEN you blame another campaign who was not who leaked the story to thepress. Is it opposite day?
