What can you expect from an Artos MTX wire processor?
Simply stated, a machine with the best price:performance ratio in the
industry. Fact is, you won’t find a smarter, better engineered machine
today that offers this kind of application flexibility.
The key is its “multi-tasking capability.” Up to three work stations can
be installed on each side of the machine for a total of six unique
processes. These stations can be programmed in any sequence and used
more than once for a specific wire program.
Depending on your needs, you can expand your termination applications
to include seal insertion, twisting and tinning, boot insertion, ultrasonic
welding and more – without significant changeover or having to make
additional investments.

All of the mechanical designs within the MTX have been engineered for
simplicity, reliability and optimum performance.
MTX wire processors feature up to ten brushless servo motors to provide
fast and precise control over most processing functions, including: wire
feeding, wire stripping, wire end of core placement, crimping height
setting and crimping process. Servo motors ensure the best possible
combination of output and precision, producing cycle speeds of over
4500 pieces per hour.
The MTX greatly simplifies terminal changeover by eliminating the manual
positioning of the wire to the terminal applicator. You can program the end of
the wire into a pre-set position and program the height of the terminating
station so that machine set-up is done automatically with maximum precision.
■ Programmable settings for wire length, wire diameter, strip lengths,
and end of core position eliminate manual adjustments.
■ End of core positions can be determined either through a motorized jog
feature or through a unique self-learning process which allows the user
to manually teach the desired processing positions.
■ Terminal crimping heights can be stored and recalled via the TU-10
termination unit.
■ Wire loading is simplified through the MTX’s self-threading feature.
■ Wire guides and blade assemblies are easily changed without tools.

Terminal reels are loaded below theworking platform on the MTX tominimize lifting during a changeover.Paper take-up devices are also available for collection of terminalreel paper waste.
An optional wire collector withbatch sorter provides continuousoperation during batch processing. Two (2) and four (4) meter collectors are available for longerlengths. Additional units may be added.
An ergonomically designed PCwork station has been builtright into MTX wire processorsat the wire infeed position, giv-ing operators the best view ofall working devices.
Changing from open to closed barrelterminals has been automated through the introduction of a patentedpneumatic tonking device and a processing station base with programmable height adjustment.

When you interface the TU-10with the MTX, you have a winningcombination of technologies thatguarantees higher production, improved crimping quality andlower operating costs.
The Artos TU-10 programmable terminating unit is an exciting option that can be
integrated with MTX machines. The TU-10’s patented crimping technology allows
for all crimp operating parameters to be programmed and instantly recalled ...
eliminating the need for manual set-up. Here are just some machine highlights:
■ Programmable and recallable crimp height adjustments eliminate the need
for manual setting.
■ Programmable stroke and speed settings accommodate a broad range of
applicator types, while optimizing cycle speeds for all applications.
■ An integrated crimp force
monitor can recall known
applications to eliminate
additional set-ups for relearning.
■ The servo controlled TU-10
is synchronized with the
MTX, assuring the wire to
be in location during the
crimping process.
Programmable and recallablecrimp height adjustment allows
you to automate the crimp heightprocess. Set-up time is reduced and
crimp quality is greatly enhanced.
With standard V-blades, only four
cutting surfacescome into contact
with the wire. On a5mm2 wire, 21.2%of the insulation is
torn during thestripping process.
In contrast, with Artos’ patented Universal StrippingBlade, eight cutting surfaces
contact the wire. On thatsame 5mm2 wire, only 7.7%
of the insulation is torn, drastically improving quality.
This design allows for processing of the completewire range (from .022mm2
to 6mm2) without changing blades.
An integrated terminal strip chop-offmaintains a working platform free ofterminal scrap.

Our Windows® 98 or
NT based software is
extremely easy to learn and
use. It provides graphical
representation of wire color
and end of wire applications
– and even allows for new
icons to be created.
The Process Table greatly
simplifies the creation
of new part programs
by using existing
process properties.
An integrated Ink-Jet
marking option can be
programmed through
the MTX operator
screen, allowing
markings to be included
in part programs.
The MTX operator interface
features Artos’ revolutionary
“Global Database” Software. This
software allows set-up information,
including wire positions and
programs, to be shared via
network between multiple
machines (on site or off), thus
eliminating the need for duplicate
set-up procedures.
The software’s database has been
divided into two tables for simple
part creation:
1) The Wire Table contains all
programming parameters relating
to a specific wire type, including:
feed rates, stripping diameter,
color, etc.
2) The Process Table contains
all information relating to the
end of wire application, including:
strip length, end of core position,
seal position, crimp height,
tinning dwell time, etc.
New parts are made by simply
combining a wire with a leading
and trailing process, and entering
the required wire length.
The software’s “Job Designer”
feature then allows operators to
create, arrange and recall harness
or batch programs by harness part
number ... and all it takes is a few
keystrokes.

Our engineers have thought of everything to make
your job of processing wire easier. We’ve built in a
number of quality assurance measures and features
to keep you operating at peak performance. Some
of these highlights include:
■ Closed loop servos – to provide feedback as to
all end of core positioning movements.
■ A belt-driven feed drive system (with length
verification through a separate encoder) –
to ensure accurate cutting lengths.
■ Adjustable and programmable pressure settings
for the wire gripping modules – to accommodate
different insulation types and thicknesses.
■ In-process inspections – to ensure the quality of
stripping, seal position and crimping.

Data collection and display is availablefor monitoring process controls. Based on maximum cycle speeds, actual production rates will vary.
Preventive maintenance can be scheduled through the operator software which automatically remindsusers to perform required maintenance before failures.
Bad wires are made unusable andcan be collected separately fromgood parts.
