Message from the President/CEO

As we embark on this memorable occasion I am excited and humbly appreciative of the support the Metropolitan Tulsa Urban League has received. Tonight, we have the wonderful opportunity to see the giving spirit that exists in the Tulsa community. A giving spirit that is demonstrated by our sponsors, community, our

Board of Directors, Advisory Board, Guild, the MTUL team, and volunteers. The success of our Annual Dinner represents the generosity of one of the nation’s most charitable and giving cities. Although the Metropolitan Tulsa Urban League has made tremendous strides over the past few years we know that there is still plenty of work to be done. We know this is not a task that we can take on alone, but a task that will require partnerships and collaboration of the community, and the unrelenting effort and skills of invested League supporters to stay the course -one child, one family, and one neighborhood at a time. The Metropolitan Tulsa Urban League is committed to the Tulsa community. We plan to continue to work diligently to impact our community. Our rich history and present potential will shape our vision, dreams, planning, goals, and actions for 2012 and years to come. Our great city deserves all its parts effectively working for the betterment of its citizens. With your continued support, we will look to the future and be committed to continue programming that provides for a flourishing city for today and tomorrow. I would like to thank the Metropolitan Tulsa Urban League Board, Advisory Board, and Guild for all of their time, support and dedication to the League. My sincere thanks and gratitude to the MTUL staff for their passion and commitment to our programs, clients, and the League. A very special thanks to Mr. Steve Swetoha President of the WNBA Tulsa Shock for chairing this wonderful event as well as our presenting sponsor, Bank of Oklahoma. I sincerely appreciate the Annual Dinner Planning Committee and MTUL volunteers, clients, advocates and friends. To all mentioned, your service to the League is invaluable and greatly appreciated. Best regards,

Marquetta D. Finley, MS, CPP, CCT President/CEO

Civic Engagement Funding Sources: W.K. Kellogg Foundation In 2010 MTUL received a new racial equity grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. This grant was designated for a three-tiered racial healing program approach. Through this grant MTUL provides services to elementary students through Freedom Schools, high school students through the new Tulsa Race Exchange program, and to adults through Community Conversations on Race. Tulsa Race Exchange – Tulsa Race Exchange (TRX) is a program designed by MTUL. TRX is a student-led racial healing curriculum which not only educates students about the history of Oklahoma and Tulsa, but also defines the terminology of race, helps students determine their place within the community, and helps them define how they can play a role in racial healing in the community.

Community Conversations on Race – the Community Conversations on Race is designed to: Explore multicultural experiences of Tulsans by expanding our knowledge and awareness of race and racism; and ultimately to develop skills and competencies to communicate more effectively across cultural difference. The goals are to provide participants with an opportunity to:

Realize the interconnectedness of our communities Understand and appreciate that we all have different lived experiences

with regard to race Examine ones own positive and negative biases towards difference Experience cultural realities through mini-lectures, storytelling,
