Biology Field Trip Citizen Science

Practice Day

(off site)

High School Biology - Citizen Science It’s that time of the year where our 1st and 4th Biology classes will be participating in

the Citizen Science program from Seattle Aquarium. As you know, the Muckleshoot

Tribal School has partnered with them for five years and seen growth among each year

for science!

Here is a bit of background:

Students learn the taxonomy of the ocean life of Puget Sound.

Develop qualitative and quantitative observations skills in identification, data collec-

tion of Vashon Island for King County, and tools of mapping.

Work as groups to collaborate on science poster in which they are displayed at a sym-

posium.

Mentored by biologists from Seattle Aquarium.

Practice hands on study in the Biology EOC exam for ecosystems.

We will be applying the project to projects for Vashon Island.

Thank you, Ms. Atcitty

Page 6 3RD AND 4TH GRADE PICKING NETTLES

Nettle picking field trip in the woods at

the tribal college. Third graders did a

wonderful job harvesting in the right way.

Thank you Ms. Verna and everyone who

helped out! We also enjoyed sautéed net-

tles with bacon and garlic, as well as net-

tle-smoked salmon cream cheese spread.

Much of what we gathered is being dried

in the culture room. Ms. Verna, LeeLee,

Leslie, Mary and Sharleen lead a song to

help us get started in the right way.
