AFC MTP® Low Loss Cabling System

AFC’s MTP pre-terminated cables and cassettes offer a market leading

low loss, fast and efficient connection system particularly suited to the

Data Centre (DC) and Storage Area Network (SAN) environment.

The modular MTP product set comprises cable assemblies, cassettes,

heavy duty fanouts and various 1RU, 1.5RU, 2RU and 3RU enclosure

options. The solution is ideal for both new and fully populated

communication racks.

US Conec MTP Technology Partnership

To bring the highest quality multi-fibre pre-terminated system to our

customers, AFC has partnered with US Conec (Hickory NC USA) to

guarantee only ‘best in class’ MTP connectors are used.

AFC only uses US Conec MTP Elite connectors due to their low loss and

enhanced performance over standard MPO connectors.

The AFC and US Conec partnership ensures that the latest in next

generation multi-fibre solutions are available and fully supported.

Cabling Overview

MTP cabling architectures utilise varying cable and patchcord configurations

as defined in TIA-568-C.0-2. These cables vary by gender, fibre orientation and

pair management.

AFC manufactures a large and varied range of MTP cable assemblies to suit:

• 10Gig backbone and extension cables

• 40/100Gig backbone and patchcord cables

• 10Gig/Fibre Channel MTP to LC hybrid cables

• 40Gig MTP to 10Gig LC patchcords

Fibre types

• 12 or 24F laser optimised bend tolerant multimode 50/125µm OM4 and OM3

• 12 or 24F bend insensitive 9/125µm singlemode OS2

All AFC MTP assemblies are made to TIA and ISO/IEC specifications.

The low 10/40/100Gig channel loss requirements of ISO/IEC 11801 demand

high performance connectivity is used. AFC only use the US Conec MTP Elite

connector to ensure the lowest possible connector insertion losses.

Numerous cable options are available with the most popular being the 3mm

round mini cable. Other options include ruggedised round mini, metallic

armoured round mini, coloured sheaths and different sheath types.

Features and Benefits

• MTP Elite connectors for low link/channel loss performance

• TIA-568-C.0-2 based parallel optics cables for standards compliance and traceability

• Round mini cable construction offers reduced raceway usage and looming neatness

• MTP connectors supplied with push/pull tabs for ease of handling

• MTP connector endface geometry compliance to IEC standards for enhanced intermateability and interoperability

• Large range of cable colours for circuit ID options

• Bundled cable option allows for ease of handling and installation of multiple 12/24F cables

SD Range

AFC’s SD (Standard Density) range of MTP enclosures and cassettes offer an ideal

balance of density and accessibility. Ideally suited for environments requiring

increased space for labelling and patching access.

Enclosures to suit the SD range are a fixed tray style and offer an easy open

access, shallow depth design. Suited to racks with a minimum depth of 450mm

or back to back applications in deeper racks.

The MOD-T enclosure also features a removable rear mounting cable

management bar. An optional front mount hinged cable tray can be fitted to the

MOD-T enclosure.

Densities

• 1RU 48F/24LCD and 1.5RU 96F/48LCD – 2RU 96F/48LCD – 3RU 192F/96LCD

• SD cassettes also suit AFC’s range of FWE wall mount enclosures. These wall mount enclosures offer a two door design ideally suited for MUTO frame mount, underfloor and overhead applications.

• SD MTP cassettes are available in 12 and 24F OM3/OM4/OS2 configurations

Features and Benefits

• Flat and angled front cassette designs for patchcord management options

• Colour coded cassettes, cassette fronts and coloured LC adapters available for circuit ID options

• MTP adapter panels to suit 40/100Gig architecture

• Low loss MTP Elite, low loss LC connectors and adapters to meet the low Channel losses defined in ISO IEC 11801

• Shuttered MTP cassette adapters maintain MTPE connector hygiene

• Fully assembled, video inspected and tested to AS/NZS ISO/IEC 14763.3 by AFC Australia

HD Range

AFC’s HD (High Density) range of MTP enclosures and cassettes offer 96F (48LCD)

capacity in 1RU. The 4 cassette design is ideal for Fabric A/Fabric B type networks.

Ideally suited for environments requiring a balance between density, labelling and

patching access.

Enclosures to suit the HD range are available in both sliding and fixed tray designs.

Suited to racks with a minimum depth of 450mm or back to back applications in

deeper racks.

The HDS (sliding enclosure) features a partly enclosed 1RU and 3RU design with

hinged cable tray.

The HDT (fixed enclosure) features an easy open access shallow depth design.

This enclosure also features a removable rear mounting cable management bar.

An optional front mount hinged cable tray can be fitted to the HDT enclosure.
