The state of Mississippi is divided into a total of 82 counties—each one is a member of a Tobacco-Free Coalition, funded by a grant from the Mississippi State Department of Health. What is a Coalition? Each Coalition is comprised of community members representing a variety of organizations, as well as the MTFC Project Director.

What do the Coalitions do? The primary goals are: - prevent tobacco use among youth - advance statewide cessation services - minimize exposure to secondhand smoke - eliminate tobacco-related disparities The Coalitions work together with the Mississippi State Department of Health to educate community members of all ages about the harmful effects of tobacco use, provide resources and information about smoking cessation, and advocate for smoke-free ordinances in their communities. happy to give

the dangers of smoking

to community

members of any age,

materials, and work

together with you to

keep Mississippi

healthy and beautiful!

As our fiscal year comes

to a close, I have spent a

lot of time reflecting on

the progress we have

made as a coalition.

With the support of our

coalition members and

community, we were

able to have a

comprehensive smoke-

free ordinance passed in

Forest and have also

begun to work in the

Pelahatchie and Magee

communities as well. In

addition to our smoke-

free ordinances, we are

working closer with the

Mississippi Oral Health

Community Alliance

(MOHCA) and I will be

serving as the Regional

Chair for Central

Mississippi! I am

excited for all the great

things that will come

with this partnership!

Please feel free to

Hi Everyone!

My name is Brianna Anderson and I am excited to be working with the

Mississippi Tobacco-Free Coalition of Rankin, Scott and Simpson Counties!

I recently moved to the area from Illinois and will be starting a Master’s

program in Child and Family Studies this Fall. I graduated from the

University of Illinois with degrees in Spanish and Reproductive Studies and

enjoy sports of all sorts and being outdoors. I am looking forward to

educating others on the dangers of tobacco use and working to promote

healthy lifestyles in our communities. If you have any questions or are

interested in becoming more involved with the MTFC, please feel free to

have not been able to overcome it, check out the Mississippi Quit Line website at

www.quitlinems.com or call 1-800-QUIT-NOW for information on cessation

techniques, online resources, and support services to assist you in your steps toward a

smoke-free life!
