Mitcham Town CommunityTrust has been a registeredcompany limited by guaranteesince 20th August 2013 andconsists of ten schools andtwo community groups fromMitcham Town. Cluster mem-bership covers seven primaries,two special schools (SEN andSEBD), St Marks Family Centreand the Jeremiah Project.Working in partnership withone another and a variety ofother agencies for many years,the Trust is offering widercommunity access to facilities

and varied activities within andbeyond the school day. Ourmission is to support all youngpeople and families fromMitcham Town in reaching theirfull potential.We aim to createongoing learning opportunitiesfor the whole community andraise pupil attainment.

Our objectives are focusedaround continuous professionaldevelopment, curriculum inno-vation and raising already highstandards of teaching andlearning.

London SchoolsExcellence Grant for‘Teaching Excellence’we have been awarded £68,000last year to deliver Masters inLeadership and Innovation forteachers in partnership withUniversity of West London andInterfacespace. MTCT currentlysponsors 16 teachers on theMasters programme.

All researchers presented theirwork based projects at therecent PAN London Conferenceat the University of West Londonwith great success.Lead Professor Rosie Raffety,Celia Dawson and Emily Watt willbe presenting the MA Clustermodel at the prestigious APERAconference in Hong Kong on19th November 2014.

School on 30 Saturdays per year.(150 hours in total), targetingpredominantly disadvantagedstudents.

SHINE Merton recorded the bestattendance rates this year. Over60 disadvantaged pupils from 7primaries attend every Saturday.Excellent academic progressresults were noted as well asopportunities for wider communityengagement (peer mentor trainingand volunteering, East and Westproduction and SNAP workshops).with Wimbledon Theatre).

Shine has received a number ofdonations this year includingWaitrose Community Mattersgrant, Christmas Toys appeal andDinner on Jesus, grants fromMercers Company, Circle Housing,Wimbledon Foundation andEarnest Cook Trust. We also rana successful Summer school thatincluded Shine taster sessionsand transition drama activitiesdelivered by Attic TheatreCompany. Summer School wassponsored by Circle Housingand Mitcham Youth Partnership.

Peer Mentor Training- SHINE SHINE Merton continued to offerPeer Mentor training opportunitiesin September 2014. The training

was designed for older studentsto learn how to support youngerpupils during SHINE sessions bypassing on their experience andsharing their knowledge andskills. Selected SHINE graduateswere invited to come back, trainand volunteer in SHINE sessionssubject to successful completionof the training course. We had afantastic response from studentsand parents which was excellentto see and currently have agroup of ten trained volunteers.

Cooking School forGraduates fundedby Mitcham YouthPartnershipSuccessfully running for thethird year, the project was rated‘outstanding’ by Young Inspectorslast year. The course is designedfor all SHINE Peer mentors andsecondary student volunteersas an opportunity for reverseinclusion as well as personal andpractical skills development. TheCooking School runs for 30 weeksper year every Friday at CricketGreen School. We currently havefifteen young people (aged 12-18)from various backgrounds,including students with specialeducational needs.

Healthy SchoolsLondon Borough of Merton,Mitcham Town Community Trustand Jeremiah Project haverecently partnered up to deliverHealthy Schools programmefunded by Merton Public Health.The aim is to improve the healthof our residents and, over thenext five years reduce theinequalities in health outcomesbetween the east and westof Merton. We are currentlyconsulting with schools andhope to start with the projectdelivery from January 2015.

Cluster StudySupport CentreThe Study Support Centre basedat Cricket Green 6th Form is a jointproject, creating a partnershipamongst all schools from theMitcham Town Cluster. The Centrehas been designed to provide astimulating, modern high-techteaching environment. The highratio of adults to young peopleenables development of confidence-boosting relationships betweenstudents and mentors and ensuresrapid progress and key skillsdevelopment. The programmeis currently working on schoolreferral basis and focusing onoffering specially tailored studysupport and enrichment courses.All sessions are supported by afully trained Lead Tutor, teachingassistants and St Marks AcademyAmbassadors. In addition, fromthis year, we deliver outreachtutoring service at Phipps BridgeYouth Centre. The after schoolstudy support is sponsored byEarnest Cook, Merton VoluntaryService Council grant and MertonYouth Service.

SHINE on SaturdayHaving been successful in its bidto the SHINE Trust for the secondtime, and with support from CircleHousing and Mercers Company,the main aim of the SHINE projectis to continue to deliver learningopportunities on a Saturday andgive the chance to sixty 9-10 yrold pupils (approx.10 per eachCluster school) to take part inenrichment activities aimed atraising attainment. Activitiesinclude professional coaching,educational trips, theatre work-shops, SATs revision, free lunchetc. SHINE curriculum is overseenand devised by a fully qualifiedand experienced teacher. SHINEoffers six hours of study supportand enrichment at Bond Primary

Mitcham in ViewMitcham Town Community Trustinvited talented young peoplewho live in Mitcham to take partin the Mitcham In View Heritageproject and capture local life withprofessional support. Pupils willhave an opportunity to choosesubjects and local area sites,including special events or justthe everyday things that happenas part of day-to-day life inMitcham. All photos will befeatured in a special interactiveexhibition, and the creative journeydocumented in a form of a videopresentation at St Mark’s Academyas part of Mitcham Town Commu-nity Trust’s Celebration eventon Feb 15. Project is funded byCircle Housing Community Grant.

St Marks AcademyAmbassadorsOur thriving partnership withSt Marks Academy has offeredwork experience to over 306th Form students in MTCTschools since November 2012.Each school gets an allocatedhalf term slot and up to fourstudent volunteers for approx.half a day per week. Schoolstailor the visits according totheir needs (e.g. classroom studysupport, reading mentors, faithambassadors, fundraising events,arts projects). All 6th Form pupilsfrom St Marks Academy attended'reading mentors' training andsome also volunteer for the afterschool Study Support provisionoffering academic help toyounger primary pupils withgreat success.

Parent SupportAdvisor Network The Cluster Development Managerregularly meets with the schoolPSA’s offering them supportand guidance. These meetingsproved to be a fantastic hub

for networking, fundraisingand introduction to a numberof work professionals andpartner agencies.

Staff ContinuousProfessionalDevelopment (CPD)The Cluster is committed tosharing resources and goodpractice by putting on a seriesof twilights and shorter trainingcourses for teaching andsupport staff.

Adult and FamilyLearningWe have partnered for the fourthyear with Merton Adult Educationto deliver adult and family learningsessions. These included Story-bird, Family Arts, Mission X gamecreation workshops and FoodSafety training. We also offerbudgeting courses and a JobClub in partnership with JeremiahProject and CAP. Upon coursecompletion, we noticed a numberof people enrolling to otherlearning courses and searchingfor employment which was verypleasing to see.

Development Work Our development work is based onstrategic planning and innovation.We are focused on growing ourTrust and embedding charityinitiatives. We are very opento new ideas and buildingpartnerships and are oftencomissioned for projectmanagement and deliveryby other organisations.Please give us a call ifyou wish to discusspotential projects!
