1 MT. ZION FELLOWSHIP NEWS JUNE 2016 OVER COFFEE The ground hogs were becoming a nuisance. One dug itself a new home by our front door, crawled onto the table sitting in front of our living room bay window, and looked in on us. Another dug its home by the church kitchen door, where it could be seen munching on the flowers. As soon as we would move one critter on, another would move in from the six-acre woods next door. Something had to be done. Then on a Friday, a surveying crew marked the woods boundaries. The following Monday, a crew started clearing the trees, and by the time six acres of brush and trees was turned to mulch, a lot of the ground hogs had moved on. We’ve been wondering who might take their place. I think a restaurant would be nice. We could park, worship, and walk to dinner. One of you has predicted a motel. A few see an office moving in. Others see a small shopping center. Whatever it turns out to be, negotiations for acquiring the new space will start with a listing price of five and a half million dollars. In my economy, that’s way too much to pay for 6.36 acres of tree stumps, ground hog holes, and a pile of old tires, unless, of course, I knew there was a treasure to be found there. Business is like that, and so is the kingdom of heaven, which Jesus said is like a treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. (Matthew 13:47) God works that way. Peter left his business for the treasure of a life of following Jesus, and learning to fish for souls. Paul wrote off his reputation and career for the treasure of gaining Christ and being found in Him. At great cost, both traveled the world to create new churches in new places. Paul would write that he was jailed, hurt in riots, endured long days, sleepless nights, and gone hungry. In it all, Paul said, The Holy Spirit has been with us, and our love has been real. We have spoken the truth, and God’s power has worked in us. (2 Corinthians 6:6-7) Out of it all, Peter wrote, God makes us a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:1-9) The joy God offers us in Christ is the greatest treasure of all. We find that joy by seeking God’s kingdom above all else, giving our whole heart to Christ, and sharing his life with the world. Over Coffee

OVER COFFEE The ground hogs were becoming a nuisance. One dug itself a new home by

our front door, crawled onto the table sitting in front of our living room bay window, and looked in on us. Another dug its home by the church kitchen door, where it could be seen munching on the flowers. As soon as we would move one critter on, another would move in from the six-acre woods next door.

Something had to be done. Then on a Friday, a surveying crew marked the woods boundaries. The

following Monday, a crew started clearing the trees, and by the time six acres of brush and trees was turned to mulch, a lot of the ground hogs had moved on.

(Matthew 13:47)

God works that way. Peter left his business for the treasure of a life of following Jesus, and

learning to fish for souls. (1 Peter 2:1-9)

The joy God offers us in Christ is the greatest treasure of all. We find that joy by seeking God’s kingdom above all else, giving our whole heart to Christ, and sharing his life with the world.

Youth “Yission” – York Mission Trip - July 10 through July 15.

Impact July 27 – 31st - with Calvary UMC ,York The Impact festival combines powerful praise and worship sessions, challenging breakout seminars, ambitious athletic and outdoor activities, life changing lessons from God’s Word with seven main stage gatherings, and a relational emphasis through group building and campfire settings.

TO MY BUS TRIP FRIENDS, I am in the early planning stages of a fall bus trip for us. The place is near Scranton and we would be going to Eckley Miners' Village and then to Steamtown for a train ride. The Village re-lives the everyday life of a coal miner from birth to death. Learn how the social and class stratification determined how the villagers were arranged in the town according to how much money they made. Lunch would be at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel, built in 1908 and listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Next would be a quick trip to Steamtown for a self-guided tour through the History and Technology Museum and then take a short railway excursion. Please let me know what you think of this possible trip and if you are interested. The price would be $116.00 a person. Thanks so much. Carol

Mt. Zion Table Flea Market

Thank you to everyone who chaired a committee for Dana and I for the Annual Mt. Zion Flea Market. Thank you to everyone who agreed to serve on a committee for our chair persons. In January when Dana and I agreed to co-chair this event we (including Bob) began to eat, sleep and drink this event. My strength was administrative, my co-chair was the internet, and Bob for preparing the signs for Bill to place. The people who agreed to chair – Parking-Steve Fake, Kitchen-Betsy Harmon, Mt. Zion Table-Bill Smyers, Signs-Bill Bowers were all new to doing these things. We had a lot of familiar faces serving under these individuals, with a lot of new faces coming forward. Pastor Skip did the slide show for us, help from Tina with our flyers and tray covers, Ginny preparing our Bible verses for tables in social hall, Walt giving his time to show Steve and his crew the vendor spot parking. The cutting of the church grass Dick Coyler; Betsy, Carol, Beth and T for making our soups; All the people who did hours of baking - we had four full tables of baked goods on Friday evening. Sunday we sold quarts of left over soup and baked goods - $212. Any baked goods left were taken by Max McDonald to Downtown Daily Bread with the Giant food run. If we have missed anyone we are sorry because we could not have done this without your help and we are very appreciative.

Flea Market - $4028.09, minus expenses of $115.00 – Final total is $3788.49

Donations at the Mt. Zion Table for New Hope was $5.00 Ann Geyer and Dana Myers

Announcing Families First Church! What is Families First Church?

Families First Church is a new kind of worship service that provides a new space connecting families to God. In Families First Church, children will love the music, the interactive prayers, the skits and plays, and the Bible Stories.

Parents will love the relevant faith themes, the moments of quiet contemplation, and the opportunity of learning life lessons along with their children. Children will have the opportunity to serve God and lead worship, as God becomes an important part of their lives.

First Families Church will gather at 9:00 am on third Sunday of the month. Our first Family First Service will gather on August 21. Additional Family First Services will be held on September 18, October 16, November 20, December 18, and then on into the 2017.

In the weeks ahead, Mt. Zion Church will be inviting area families to experience Families First Church. We will also be seeking people to help lead this outreach into our community. In the meantime, we invite you to pray that the Holy Spirit equip, empower, and prosper Families First Church.

Most of all, we are praying that God will give you the opportunity to invite yourself and family you know to our first ever Families First Church on Sunday, August 21st.
