It feels nice to say hello again, this time from Bogota, Colombia. I am very excited to be back in my home country with my daughter Sofia, who is now 5 years old and goes to the same school I graduated from. After 8 years abroad in Canada, the United States and Honduras, I can tell you that Co-lombia feels like the best place to be. I would like to express how lucky I feel about the opportunities I have had since graduating from MSU. I have worked mainly in Human Resources Departments in the Banking industry. I started out at Key Bank in Cleve-land, Ohio, performing as an intern on the Website Development team. A year later, I moved to Honduras to join CABEI (Central American Bank of Economic Integration), a development bank with holdings in 9 member countries from Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe. From a large group of candidates, I was selected as the Colombian representative to the Young Professionals Program, where I worked as an HR analyst. The Bank was an excellent place to learn. Here, the HR team performed all HR proc-esses in a professional and transparent fashion. Furthermore, we needed to be extremely careful about how we administered basic processes. Having access to the “best of the best” talent across 9 countries, you can imagine how our complex our selection criteria were, particularly when facing the need to defend HR principles above and beyond any possible country laws and regulations. This was not a rare situation in an environment where politics are always present and where stakeholders are often govern-ment representatives. I next accepted an offer from Grupo Financiero Ficohsa, a main Financial Group in Honduras known for its dynamism and creativity. In this firm, I acted as the Training and Development Manager within the HR Corpo-rate team. The Group consists of a private bank, an insurance group, and a variety of smaller financial compa-nies. Among my responsibilities, I was asked to develop a plan to take the group to a certifiable level in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility; though challenging, this was one project that I particularly enjoyed. After three and a half months of strategy design, team preparation, and implementation, the Group was certi-fied with the Socially Responsible Organization seal (Sello ESR-Empresa Socialmente Responsable) by FUN-DAHRSE (Fundacion Hondureña de Responsabilidad Social Empresarial). We were especially proud of this accomplishment as we were one of seven corporations in Honduras awarded this recognition. A few months ago, I accepted an opportunity in Bogota, Colombia with Mercer Human Resources Consulting. I now serve as the Regional Business Partner for Latin America in the Health and Benefits line of business. My job consists of identifying strategic HR needs, helping the business to address them, and facilitating the fulfilment of business objectives through people. I am excited to learn from the very interesting people that I have known throughout eight Latin American countries in the Health and Benefits Joint Venture. I believe that, as we stay open to learning, our opportunities broaden and we become better professionals and human beings. If anyone would like to reach me, feel free to write me an e-mail at [email protected] Best of luck to all of you!
The OERG is the consulting arm of the I/O program. Students and faculty serve as consultants to local and national organizations providing HR and research consulting services. Faculty and students donate their time and we use the funds from the pro-jects to pay for student trips, activities, and equipment. This year OERG funds helped pay for office equipment , SIOP, IOOB, new computers, site visits, speakers, and inter-
national trips.

MSU I/O Program Welcomes Kristie Campana
Kristie is just finishing up her first semester at MNSU, after teaching graduate-level statistics and undergraduate research methods courses. Next semester she will focus on teaching Introduction to Psychology and more research methods courses , and she would like to develop a course on negotia-tion and conflict in the near future. She enjoys working on research examining relationships in the workplace, and how they can help enrich or damage individuals' satisfaction and well-being. She also loves working with students on research pro-jects. Furthermore, she is focused on helping stu-dents become better writers to help them differenti-ate themselves once they enter the work world. When she's not working, Kristie likes to knit, run, and cook.
Carol Lynn Courtney and Dick Olson
We have been very fortunate this year that Carol Lynn Court-ney, President of Courtney Consulting, and Dick Olson, Presi-dent of Olson Consulting (right) have worked closely with students and staff in the I/O program. Drs. Olson and Court-ney have proven to be outstanding professional coaches for the students, advisors for the faculty, and travel partners for all of us. In fact, Carol Lynn even started a new band, and filled it with I/O psychologists including our own graduate JR Rowenhorst. Learn more about The Options at http://
www.myspace.com/theoptionsmpls.
Special thanks goes out to Bob Hoffman, VP for Strategic Partnerships, Ann Goebel, Director of Twin Cities Part-nerships, and John Frey, Director of Business and In-
dustry Partnerships for their help establishing consulting projects and research partnerships between the I/O Pro-
gram and businesses in Minnesota.
Special thanks may, or may not, go to Jer-emy, Nate, Corey and Nate for their help
“preserving “ the office.
