"Life doesn't require that
we be the best, only that
we try our best."
‐ H. Jackson Brown
We encourage you to make your room and apartment a space of your own. We have a very diligent local fire marshal who visits our residences every year so it’s important that we stay safe and follow the guidelines set out for us.
Here are a couple fire hazards and decoration issues we need you to be aware of . . .
-Lamps with plastic lamp shades are a fire hazard because they can melt, especially the 5-arm lamps
-Extension cords must be UL approved and cannot be “daisy-chained” (one plugged into another).
-Please be careful when hanging things on the walls. Tacks and nails are not allowed because they leave holes in the wall. Also, the 3M tabs that should work on all surfaces will peel the paint off the buildings that have been painted recently. Please use only white sticky tack in these buildings, so you are not charged at the end of the year for ruined paint.
What if I lose my key?
You will need to report your key loss to your CA and he or she will order you a new key. You will be charged $35 for a replacement key card or you could use a temporary key up to 5 days with no charge. If during office hours stop by the of-fice. If closed, call the answering service.
What if I don’t like my room-mate?
We encourage to you to follow the model of conflict resolution found in “The Golden Rule”. If you are experiencing conflict or disagree-ment with your roommate, the best thing to do is to talk to your room-mate about the conflict. If you need help talking to your roommate or if things don’t get better, you should involve your CA and/or HD .

Keep your room neat, and clean.
Room Checks will be taking place August 31-September 2, 2011. Make sure your rooms are cleaned and neat. Prohibited items and/or appliances may be confiscated.
For mail delivery, Purchase a P.O. Box from the University Post Office. Or Return to Sender!
Please purchase a P.O. Box if you have not done so already. The Housing Office has received many personal mail and text books in the past. To make sure your mail is delivered straight to the person intended, purchase a personal mailbox today.
Trash in the Hallways
Make sure you are taking all trash to the dumpsters. All dumpsters are equipped with sliding doors to make disposal hassle-free.
‘We don’t have a parking problem; We have a walking problem.’
Be certain to park only in approved student parking lots. If you are found in violation you could be ticketed and/or towed.
Maintenance Tip of the Month
Thanks for Attending the 2011 Resident Orientation
Garbage Disposal Have you ever noticed that your drains are constantly being clogged. One way to help with this problem is to monitor what you place down the drains. The drains are designed to carry normal products… i.e. water. The drains are not designed to carry food items. If you have items that need to be disposed of and you live in the suites or Collette, please take your items to the dumpster. If you live in Bel/ Sallier please use the garbage disposal.
