What to expect from a Belimed sterilizer

According to alternating stress calculations for

Belimed Sterilizers a pressure vessel check is

again after 50,000 cycles scheduled.

10 cycles per day by 250 working days

= 2,500 cycles/year

50,000 / 2,500 = in hospital use the

next pressure vessel check must be

done after 20 years

20 cycles per day (industrial use) by

250 working days =

5,000 cycles/year

50,000 / 5,000 = in industrial use the

next pressure vessel check must be

done after 10 years

Description of function:

The centrifugal separator is used

to separate the water particles

from the steam.

The water particles are flung

against the cone wall by the

centrifugal force exerted by the

high flow velocity of the steam and

decelerated so that they separate

from the flow and run downwards.

A shear stress is produced by

internal friction and turbulence in

the boundary layer between the

fast motive medium and the

significantly slower suction

medium. This friction causes a

transfer of momentum,

i.e. the suction medium is

accelerated and entrained.

Fractionated pre-vacuum


In the fractionated pre-vacuum process

the chamber is extracted until vacuum

and then filled with steam again. This is

repeated several times. This

progressively reduces the proportion of

air in the chamber.

At the end of the pre-treatment a ratio of

steam to air is obtained which is known

as the dilution ratio.
