    5.1 Human Resources

Surveyor Team Laboratory Technician in numbers appropriate to the works. Laboratory assistants in number appropriate for the works; Operators for compaction, material transportation and material

    leveling equipment, in number appropriate for the works;

Laborers in number appropriate for the works.5.2 Equipments

Compaction Equipment, steel roller and sheep foot in numbersappropriate for the works

Excavators in number appropriate for the works. Bulldozer in number appropriate for the works.Trucks in number appropriate for the works. Grader in number appropriate for the woks. Water tanks.

    5.3 Materials

The embankments material shall be free from topsoil, organicmatter, shale and other unacceptable material as specified in theGeneral Specifications.

Quarry Sand as per General Specification6. Methodology

6.1 The existing material within the cut section will be excavated to-550mm from the finished level and stockpiled.

6.2 Material at the excavated depth( -550mm) will be compacted toachieve 100% of British standard compaction,

6.3 Water may be added to achieve the compaction if the naturalmoisture content is not up to the OMC determined from the

laboratory control density test. However if the natural moisture

determined with a speedy moisture tester is more than the

OMC, the material will be spread with the grader and allowed to

dry to the OMC, after which it will be mixed with the grader and

    compacted.

6.4 When this layer is certified ok by the chief surveyor and thelaboratory manager, the 150mm to the formation level will be

constructed with 80% of lateritic material from the cut,

stabilized with 20% quarry dust and compacted to achieve

100% of British standard compaction in line with clauses 6005

(xiii) and 6102 of the general specification. This combination

will improve the quality of the local material to the suitable for

the construction of the subgrade layer.

6.5 On completion of the subgrade layer and certified ok by thechief surveyor and the laboratory manager, sub base material

will be placed immediately to protect it from hash weather

    conditions.

6.6 Note: where unsuitable material is located below the formation, this material will be excavated to a depth jointly agreed and

backfilled with suitable material. According to the general

specification Unsuitable material shall include the following:-

oMaterial from swamps, marshes and bogs.

o Peat, logs, stumps, roots and other perishable orcombustible material.

o Topsoil and highly organic clay and silt.o Clay having a liquid limit exceeding 80% or plasticity index

    exceeding 55.

    o Highly micaceous materials.
