Directions for usePreparation (cleaning, disinfecting and sterilization) of diamond knives from MSI PreicisionSpecialty Instruments.

General basic principlesThe diamond knives must be cleaned, disinfected and sterilized beforehand every time they are used; this particularlyapplies also to first use after delivery since the diamond knives are delivered unsterilized (cleaning and disinfecting afterremoval of the transport protective packaging; sterilization after packing). Effective cleaning and disinfecting is an essentialprerequisite for effective sterilization.Please always observe as part of your responsibility for the sterility of the diamond knives for the application that only ade-quate device and product-specific validated processes for the cleaning/disinfecting and sterilization should be used, thatthe devices used (disinfector, steriliser) are serviced and checked regularly, and the validated parameters for each cycleare observed. Please also observe the valid legal provisions in your country as well as the hygiene regulations of the med-ical practice or hospital. This particularly applies for the different regulations concerning effective prion deactivation. Cutters and tips are very sensitive to mechanical touching which is why one should absolutely avoid any situation duringmanipulation, particularly during cleaning and during safe storage, in which the diamond knives touch each other or comeinto contact with other hard materials. The traditionally used sieve or the bowl for random mounting are not at all suitableas eye instruments.The ideal container must be made out of a metal-tolerant material and be subdivided in such a way that it does not touchthe diamond knives and that it does impact the sensitive blades and tips.

Cleaning and disinfecting

BBaassiiccssAn automated process (a disinfector) should be used wherever possible for cleaning and disinfecting. A manual processshould only be used if an automated process is unavailable because of its significantly lower effectiveness and repro-ducibility1.1 Use of a manual cleaning and disinfecting process must be secured by means of an

additional product and process-specific validation, which is the responsibility of the user.

Perform pre-treatment in both cases.

PPrree-ttrreeaattmmeennttRough dirt and fouling must be removed from the diamond knives immediately after use (within a maximum of 2 hours).

Use flowing water to do this or a cleaning agent solution; the cleaning agent should be compatible with the diamondknives (see chapter “Resistance of the material to various substances“; we recommend our cleaner “Rapid Cleaner“ typeNo. 9000, 9001 and 9002). Clean the diamond knives and the blades using a soft, lint-free, damp cloth or by using theMSI Precision cleaning sticks Type No. 9014. Clean diamond blades with the cloth or cleaning sticks in the direction of cut-ting against the tip. In cases of strong fouling, we recommend hanging the diamond knives on the MSI Precision instru-ment stands type 9010, 9011, 9012 or 9013 and dipping the knives in MSI Precision Rapid Cleaner so as just to cover thefouling, to soften the dirt. The diamond knives should not be totally immersed since particles of dirt could get into themechanism and negatively effect their function.You can also perform an additional disinfection to protect personnel; the disinfecting agent should be aldehyde-free (other-wise there will be fixing of blood spots), should have a checked effectiveness (e.g. a DG HM or FDA approval or CE mark-ing), be suitable for disinfecting the diamond knives and be compatible with the diamond knives (see chapter “Resistanceof the material to various substances“). Please note that this disinfection – after cleaning – can not replace the disinfec-tion step to be performed.

Customer service

Most of our diamond blades can beresharpened several times if they arenot too badly damaged.

For each repair, the handle is totally dismantled, and all of the mechanicalparts are cleaned, checked andreplaced if necessary. Micrometer andstep knives are recalibrated.

After regrinding, the diamond blade isas good as a new blade.

We accept other knives for repair exceptthe micrometer knives. However, we cannot accept reponsibility for the break-age of blades other than MSI Precision.

We always do our best in order to returnyour repairs as soon as possible.

However, the lead time may be variabledue to the many different kind of bladetypes we receive for resharpening.

Return Policy• With our prior written authorization, returns may be

made within 30 days of purchase for full credit. Instruments must be unused and in their original package.

• To insure proper credit, you must request our “Return Authorization Form” and return the completed to us. Arestocking and inspection charge of 20% will be charged on all authorized returns more than (30) days after invoice date. No returns will be accepted after 90 days. A restocking charge may be assess on any return that in our determination was not an error of MSI.

• A restocking and inspection charge of 35% will be charged for on all authorized returns more than (60) sixty days after our invoice date.

• Goods accepted for return will be on a merchandise credit basis only and we can only accept prepaid shipments.

• Any merchandise returned without approval will be subject to an automatic restocking fee with a minimum of 35%.
