    PROGRAMME SPECIFICATION TheMScinCognitioninScience&Societyismadeupofmodulestotalling180credits.120creditsare gained through courseworkover two semesters; the remaining 60 credits are awarded for adissertation.Bothpartsof theprogrammehave tobepassed independently for theawardof theMSc.The Diploma in Cognition in Science & Society is made up of courses totalling 120 credits,comprisingthecoursework,butnotthedissertation,thatmakeuptheMSc.ADiplomamayalsobeawarded if the coursework or dissertation submitted for theMSc is considered to be below thestandardnormallyrequiredforanMSc.TheCertificateinCognitioninScience&Societyismadeupofcoursestotalling60creditsincludingthefollowingcourses: IntroductiontoStatistics&ExperimentalDesignORUnivariateStatistics&MethodologyUsingR 20creditsfromothernamedcompulsorycourses 10credits fromCognition,CultureandContextORPragmaticsofLinguisticCommunicationOR

    ASSESSMENT Assessment differs between courses. Students will normally be required to submit somecoursework, attend an examination, or some combination of the two. In addition to the formalassessments above, students may additionally be expected to carry out other assignments (forexample,presentationstotheclass).Therewillbetimesduringthecoursewhenmorethanonepieceofcourseworkwillbedueonthesameday.Itisyourresponsibilitytoorganiseyourtimesothatthevariouspiecesofcourseworkcanbesubmittedbythedeadline.All PPLS courseswill have a submission deadline of 12 noon.     howaccurate)willnotgetyouahighmark.Yourworkshouldbuilduponwhatotherpeoplehavedone,notrestateit.

    EXAMINATION BOARDS Examinationboardmeetingstakeplacetwiceayear, inJuneandOctober.AnExternalExaminer isappointedforeveryMScprogrammetomoderateandadjudicatemarking.StudentsmustnotcontactanyExternalExaminerdirectly. IfastudenthasanyqueriesorwantstoraiseamarkwithanExternal,studentsmustdosobycontactingthePGOfficeinthefirstinstance.SpecialCircumstancesStudentsarerequiredtosubmitmedicalevidence,oranyotherpaperwork,insupportofanyspecialcircumstancethatmayhaveaffectedtheirstudies.Thispaperworkiskeptanonymousandtheboardwill ensure that circumstances are taken into account when considering progression or degreeawardingcriteria.Whereanextensionhasbeengrantedforanyspecialcircumstancethroughouttheacademicyear,thesamespecialcircumstancecannotbereconsideredattheexaminationboard.InterimboardHeld in June, this board meeting approves the coursework results for MSc programmes andrecommends progression to the dissertation stage of the programme.
