Candidates with a Bachelor's or a Master's degree in administration or in related fields, such as economics, engineering, computer science, psychology, neuroscience, political science, sociology, statistics, applied mathematics, among other similarly diverse fields of study.

MSc in Administration

The purpose of the Master’s of Science (MSc) in Administration program is to provide students with solid conceptual and methodological training in administration and to prepare them to pursue either the PhD or to enter the workplace directly.

Research Tracks

The MSc and PhD programs offer four research tracks. The student follows one of the tracks, while still having the opportunity to take courses from the other three areas of concentration or from other elective courses. The conceptual knowledge obtained in each of the fields can be readily used in both business and public administration contexts. Likewise, both qualitative and quantitative methods can be applied.

The program is taught entirely in English.

Research Tracks(MSc and PhD)

Behavioral & Decision Sciences

Management & Organizations

Institutions, Policy & Government

Finance

I) Behavioral & Decision Sciences: The Behavioral and Decision Sciences track consists of an interdisciplinary group of faculty members and courses dedicated to better understanding how individuals make decisions in contexts relevant to business and government. Faculty and students from this and other tracks can also work on research projects supported by the Center for Behavioral Research (CBR).

Track Coordinator: Eduardo B. Andrade

II) Management & Organizations: The Management and Organizations track focuses on understanding management phenomena in organizations, including public and business management. Typical issues covered by this track include organizational theory, competitive strategy, internationalization, governance and control, organizational culture and management processes.

Track Coordinator: Flávio Vasconcelos

III) Finance: The Finance track consists of a set of core courses that provide an in-depth overview of essential issues in business economics, asset pricing, corporate finance, banking and financial decision making. Moreover, there are courses on key econometric methods used in finance, specialized workshops, and research events organized by the Center for Banking and Finance Research in Rio (CBFR).

Track Coordinator: Lars Norden

IV) Institutions, Policy & Government: The Institutions, Policy & Government track covers the study of political institutions, public policy and government in comparative perspective. The core question that this research track will address is the following: how do political institutions affect government, policy-making, and public policy outcomes? The program applies theoretical and methodological tools of comparative political economy to investigate the functioning of political institutions, political systems, policy-making processes, and their effect on public policies and on economic performance.

Track Coordinator: Carlos Pereira
