In advance of detailed consideration by the Committee of documents submitted under thisagenda item, the Committee is expected to engage in a high-level debate on a number ofcurrent concerns relating to issues surrounding the deployment of privately contracted armedsecurity personnel (PCASP) on board ships and the consequent carriage of arms on board.Background to this discussion is given in documents MSC 90/20/5 and MSC 90/20/7, whichthe Committee is invited to further consider in detail during the course of its ninetieth session.
