Dear LES Family,
Welcome to Week 3 of Independent Learning and the last week before Spring Break! Our assignments
this week will be more technology-based, so please refer to my Dojo post about being organized with online
learning! Other activities, that aren’t technology-based, will be paper and pencil activities. For these activities,
please have your child label the name of the activity, at the top of their paper. As of last week, the decision has
been made by Dr. Oates to keep Rockdale County schools closed until April 24th. We will continue our learning
process, digitally, until we are able to return to school. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to send me a
message through Dojo!

Step 1: Brainstorm/Research: Find out information about your favorite dinosaur using PebbleGo (username: Lorraine/ password: lions). Take down notes about your animal’s: body, habitat, food, behavior and compare to today.

We are moving into the Life Cycle unit! Throughout the week, you will observe the life cycle of a frog!
Before researching, share what you know about the life cycle of frogs with a family member.

As we all work to become more comfortable with this new way of learning, it’s important to set aside
time for FUN and MOVEMENT! In our classroom, we have “brain-breaks”, where we take a moment away from
learning to move our bodies! There are lots of free JustDance videos (for kids) on Youtube. Go to the Youtube
app/website, type in “Just Dance for Kids”, and DANCE! While you’re at it, don’t forget to practice for our

Step 2: Rough Draft: Using the information from yesterday’s research, write your rough draft telling information about your favorite dinosaur. Give your writing a title “All About ________” or “Life as a ________”. The purpose of your writing is to inform others so your writing is nonfiction.

Dear LES Family,
Happy April Fool’s Day! On Dojo, there are tips posted for an organized week of online learning. If you are
struggling to get online assignments completed before the deadline, please refer to the tips and try putting some
into action. Remember, students will earn 1 Dojo point for each online activity they complete by Sunday. Now,
students will earn 1 extra point each day for attendance. Just by being active online, every weekday, your child
will earn 1 point for being “present”. (Think of it as your child being marked “present” for the school day!)

Lesson 117- Digraphs ie and ei The focus for today’s lesson is Digraph “ie” and “ei”. (Digraphs are two letters that usually make one sound.) We code digraphs by underlining them, crossing out the letter we don’t, and coding the vowel we do hear. (See pictures below.) Listen to the sounds for Digraph "ei" and Digraph "ie"

week found on Dojo? Don’t be afraid to adjust or revamp a system/schedule that may not work for your
household. “If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again!”. We’ve got this! I’m only a Dojo message away! NEW:
Thursdays are now the last day of instruction for the week. Out of respect for the working parents, Fridays are
now a school-wide “catch-up day”! Online assignments are still due on Sundays and Dojo points will be given out
for all completed assignments every Monday. Feel free to dance and sing along with our Seussical songs!

Lesson 117- Quadrigraph eigh The focus for today’s lesson is quadrigraph “eigh”. Look at the word “QUADrigraph”, the prefix “quad” means 4 (like a “quadrilateral). A quadrigraph are 4 letters that come together and make one sound. We code quadrigraphs by underlining them. (See picture below.) Listen to the sound for Quadrigraph "eigh"

Dear LES Family,
It’s Friday! The THIRD week of Independent Learning is down! You did it! Give yourselves another pat on the
back! Thursdays are now the last instructional day of the week, and Fridays are “Finish Fridays”. Take this time
to catch-up and finish any incomplete activities from the week. I will be giving out Dojo points for competed
online activities AND attendance on Monday! Remember, I’m available through ClassDojo from 8am until 11am!
Online learning and meal routes will resume on April 13th! Enjoy your Spring Break!

Today, the Specials Teachers will be providing live lessons for the students!
Ms. Lynum’s Second Grade Class Lesson Plan
To join them, follow these steps:

Then “At-Home Lessons” tab Under the “Specials” tab, find and click on the teacher (See schedule below)
Click on the embedded links and it will take you to their meetings. Choose, “Join on the Web Instead”
Sessions will be based on the following schedule: 8:00 AM – 2nd /3rd Art, (Tompkins)
9:00 AM – 2nd /3rd PE, (Smith)
10:00 AM – 2nd /3rd Music (Miller)
The first 5 to 10 minutes will be to chat with the teacher while participants are admitted. Once the
session begins, we ask that all cameras are off and mics muted. All sessions will be recorded. *Late arrivals will need to wait in the lobby until the teacher is able to admit them and then join in the lesson in progress.
