OverDrive- eLibraryWe are excited to share some great news with our families about our new, virtual library system, OverDrive. In previous years, Rocklin Academy Turnstone and Meyers had access to the RUSD libraries on our school sites for a usage fee. Rocklin Academy Family of Schools paid $31,100.00 annually for the use of Meyers and Turnstone school site libraries. $7,500 of that was used to purchase books for the RUSD libraries at the sites that we do not get to keep each year. The remainder of the cost was facility use, staff time, library aides, and benefits. Each class spent 30 minutes per week in the library. Moving forward, we are no longer going to utilize the school site libraries, but instead invest in building our Rocklin Academy virtual library using OverDrive, and continue adding to our classroom libraries for a balance of both virtual books on our iPads, and increasing paper books in our classrooms.
OverDrive- eLibraryOverDrive is a virtual library used in more than 30,000 libraries worldwide, including Rocklin, Roseville, Lincoln, Loomis, and Sacramento libraries. As educators, we look forward to the investment of putting our school dollars into a resource that we can build on, and that all Rocklin Academy and Western Sierra Collegiate Academy students benefit from. In order to continue library skills education, we look forward to developing a library docent program at our elementary sites this year. This program will be utilizing our parent partners as volunteers to come into classrooms and teach about resources, types of literature, library skills, and read to our students. The library skills are also naturally reinforced by each classroom teacher. We look forward to using both our classroom libraries and OverDrive to support student learning and to build our Rocklin Academy Family of Schools library.
Birthdays/Class PartiesPlease do not bring in any food products (store bought or homemade)--even candy!
We still want to celebrate each child’s birthday so please feel free to bring in other items to celebrate such as pencils, bookmarks, stickers or even a book to donate to the classroom library
Summer and holiday babies are more than welcome to celebrate their half birthday. Please give me a few days notice
