R e a d i n g / W r i t i n g UNIT OF STUDY: Test Sophistication

Throughout April, we will continue to focus on Test Sophistication (Test Prep). Students will prepare for the New York State Exam through New York Ready Reading, practice “Mock” exams and specific skill review.

Our writing unit will emphasize on learning how to answer short and extended response questions using strategies such as R.A.D.D. (Restate, Answer, Detail # 1, Detail # 2).

Students will practice using evidence and details from a reading passage to answer questions.

Students will continue to practiceand use a variety of phonograms in their reading/writing.

Students will also practice using Think-to-Spell to break up the syllables of words that are hard tospell.

Students will practice their Johnny Can Spell skills in a group Setting.

SCIENCE – UNIT OF STUDY: THE ROCK CYCLE In this unit, students will identify some of the Earth’s Landforms.They will be able to recognize landforms found on Earth.

We will assess prior knowledge by asking “What do you think lies below the Earth’s Crust-Molten (Melted) rock or solid rock?”

As the students learn more about the Earth’s layers, they will have the opportunity to make a model or a chart that describes the characteristics of each layer.

Social Studies-

Unit of Study- The Western Hemisphere Today In this unit, students will be exposed to multiple perspectives to develop their thinking of historical content.

They will analyze events to better understand the past and how it helped shape the present day.
