    Microsoft Exchange Diagnostic Tools

    1. Microsoft Exchange Server User Monitor (ExMON)We will be using the Microsoft Exchange Server User Monitor to gather real-time data to betterunderstand current client usage patterns, and to view several items, including IP addresses

    used by clients, versions and modes of Microsoft Office Outlook, and resources such as CPU

    usage, server-side processor latency, and total latency for network and processing.

    2. Microsoft Exchange Troubleshooting Assistant v1.1 (ExPTA)The Exchange Troubleshooting Assistant programmatically executes a set of troubleshooting

    steps to identify the root cause of performance, mail flow, and database mounting issues. The

    tool determines what set of data is required to troubleshoot the identified symptoms and

    collects configuration data, performance counters, event logs and live tracing information froman Exchange server and other appropriate sources. The tool analyzes each subsystem to

    determine individual bottlenecks and component failures, then aggregates the information to

    provide root cause analysis.

    3. Log Parser 2.2Log parser is a powerful, versatile tool that provides universal query access to text-based data

    such as log files, XML files and CSV files, as well as key data sources on the Windows operating

    system such as the Event Log, the Registry, the file system, and Active Directory.

    4. Exchange Log AnalyzerThe ExLogAnalyzer is a framework that parses logs and triggers events based on the log entries.

    It can analyze (replay) logs across multiple servers and multiple log types in a single run.

    5. Exchange Support Tool: ExchDumpExchDump is a command line utility that gathers Exchange configuration information from

    various sources used in troubleshooting support issues.

    6. Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1The Messaging API is a COM-like API that provides access to the contents of messaging stores.

    CDO 1.2.1 (Collaboration Data Objects, version 1.2.1) is a package providing access to Outlook-

    compatible objects through a COM-based API. Using either CDO or MAPI, a program can

    connect to a MAPI store, and then perform operations against that store.

    7. Microsoft Exchange Server Public Folder DAV-based Administration ToolExchange Server Public Folder Distributed Authoring and Versioning (DAV)-based

    Administration tool (PFDAVAdmin) to perform various management tasks related to public

    folders and mailboxes. The tool checks the permissions status of each public and mailbox folder

    and corrects any problems found. The ability to bulk export/import the permissions and replicalists make this tool invaluable in achieving greater productivity in managing public folders. The

    program can also reports content information of each public folder and mailbox folder such as

    the number of items in each folder, size of folder and most recent modification date of any item

    in the folder.

    8. Microsoft Exchange Server Inter-Organization ReplicationWe will be using the Inter-Organization Replication tool to replicate free and busy information

    and public folder content between Exchange organizations. The tool will allow for the

    coordination of meeting, appointments, contacts, and public folder information between

    disjointed Exchange organizations
