Cell Organelle Trading Card Assignment Your assignment is to make a “trading card” for each cellular organelle (make one for each organelle listed on the chart on page 207 of your textbook with some minor changes described below ). The chart on page 207 of your textbook breaks the cellular organelles into 5 categories: 1. Cellular Control Center a. In addition to nucleus, look up and create a card for the nucleolus 2. Organelles that Store, Clean-up and Support 3. Organelles that Build Proteins a. Instead of creating one card for the Endoplasmic Reticulum, create a card for the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum and a card for the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum 4. Organelles that Capture and Release Energy 5. Cellular Boundaries * You should notice that these 5 categories correspond to the 5 key questions in 7.2. Step 1: Create a color coded key for each of the 5 categories described above. Step 2: On the front of each trading card, write the name of the organelle and add the animal cell diagram if the organelle is only found in animal cells, the plant cell diagram if the organelle is only found in plant cells, or both diagrams if the organelle is found in both plant and animal cells. Color in and clearly label the organelle in the diagram/s on the front of the trading card using the color coded key that you established above. Step 3: The side opposite the picture should include: A. The name of your organelle. B. Where it is found. C. The function of the organelle. D. An analogy linking the organelle to something that performs a similar function. (Ex: the nucleus is like the main office of a school because…) *note-each organelle should have a different analogy (don’t use factory over and over again...)

Cell Organelle Trading Card Assignment

Your assignment is to make a “trading card” for each cellular organelle (make one for each organelle listed on the chart on page 207 of your textbook with some minor changes described below).

The chart on page 207 of your textbook breaks the cellular organelles into 5 categories:1. Cellular Control Center

a. In addition to nucleus, look up and create a card for the nucleolus 2. Organelles that Store, Clean-up and Support3. Organelles that Build Proteins

a. Instead of creating one card for the Endoplasmic Reticulum, create a card for the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum and a card for the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum

4. Organelles that Capture and Release Energy5. Cellular Boundaries

* You should notice that these 5 categories correspond to the 5 key questions in 7.2.

Step 3: The side opposite the picture should include:A. The name of your organelle.B. Where it is found.C. The function of the organelle.D. An analogy linking the organelle to something that performs a similar function. (Ex: the nucleus is like the main office of a school because…)

*note-each organelle should have a different analogy (don’t use factory over and over again...)

Step 4: Hole punch your cards and tie them together or put them on a loose leaf ring. Create a trading card containing your color coded key and attach it with the others.

PLEASE NOTE: The information that you use for the text part of your trading cards MUST BE IN YOUR OWN WORDS! DO NOT cut and paste text.

Animal and plant cell pictures are attached. This assignment will also be made available electronically in case you want to use the images to computer generate your cards.
