    1.0 Purpose

    1.1 To ensure that the box culvert concrete activities after the installation of steelreinforcement, formwork and all specified water stops and joints are executed safely and in

    accordance with the contract requirements and that all quality assurance/ control activitiesare conducted in a systematic manner, works are inspected and conformance is verifiedand documented.

    2.0 Scope of Work

    2.1 This procedure is applicable to the followin works associated with the !roject titled,

    2.2 This method statement outlines the procedures to be followed in castin of reinforcedconcrete for %ox "ulvert at locations shown on "ontract drawins and as directed by the-nineer.

    7.1 !rior to the commencement of any activities, the workforce will receive an induction talk on

    the !roject site safety requirements. This induction talk will include both activity safetyissues, as well as eneral safety requirements.

    7.2 &ite 3oreman/&upervisor will enforce that !ersonal !rotective -quipment be worn by sitepersonnel at all times durin construction activities.

    7. !lant and -quipment will be provided with back@up alarms, lihts, and all other applicablesafety devices. "ertificates of worthiness will be provided before the equipment is used.

    8. -nsure havin adequate number 0 suitable type of concretin related equipmentAs 0trained and experienced operators and ensure providin stand by equipment as necessary.

    9.1.1 *t time of placin concrete, ensure that surfaces on which concrete is to beplaced have been protected as specified, cleaned with no debris, tyinwires, free water, and that temporary cleanin openins have been closedand sealed. &teel reinforcement must be washed free of all dust and

    contaminants before concretin.

    9.1.2 (elivery of concrete shall be properly scheduled by a manner that ensuresthe time elapsin between mixin 0 placin is as short as possible incompliance with !roject &pecifications.

    9.1. The concrete should be dischared throuh the reinforcement by a mannernot to cause uneven dispersal, sereation or loss of inredients 0 not todamae the formwork or any embedded items.

    9.1. !rovision shall be taken for any expansion, contraction, construction jointsand/or water bar as specified 0 detailed in the *3" drawins.

    9.1.4 o concrete shall be placed while the ambient temp is not within theacceptable rane as specified in "ontract (ocuments.

    9.1.6 !oured concrete shall be properly vibrated by mechanical vibrations for thefull depth of fresh concrete to ensure full compaction, >ibration shall in noaccount be continuous after water or excess rout has appeared on thesurface.

    9.1.7 "oncrete shall not be placed in adverse conditions such as dust storms orheavy rain.

    9.1.8 "oncrete must be finished before settin 0 hardenin as specified oradvised by -nineer.

    9.1.9 (urin the placin of all reinforced concrete, a competent steel fixer and acompetent carpenter shall be in attendance on each concretin an. Theyshall ensure the reinforcement embedded fittins and forms are kept inposition as work proceeds.

    9.1.1; *fter concretin 0upon strikin the formworks, tyin rod holes shall be filledwith an approved, pre@baed, cementitious, non@shrink repair mortar,applied and cured in accordance with manufacturerAs instructions.

    9..1 *s soon as concrete has set or immediately after strikin formwork incompliance with "lause 4;.;1.4, concrete surfaces shall covered withessian cloth and continuously kept wet usin potable water for a period of7 days as specified in "lause 4;.;6 of the eneral &pecifications. essiancloth shall frequently be watered as necessary to be kept wet continuously.!olythene sheets shall be laid on top of the essian clothes, properly sealedto cover all surfaces and edes to preserve and maintain the moisture of theessian clothes and concrete surfaces. &ealin shall be done in such amanner that wind cannot et under the edes of the sheets and all joints inthe sheets must be fully taped toether.

    9..2 The concrete may be further cured by applyin the approved curin

    compound immediately after removin the polythene sheet and hessiancloth, in accordance with "lause 4;.;6 &ub@clause B%. iiC of the eneralspecifications.

    9.. (irect access on the concrete finished surface before hardenin is notallowed &ubsequent protection system should be started after elapsin thecurin period.

    9. Testin

    9..1 &amplin, testin 0 assessment of compliance of concrete shall be done inaccordance with the project particular specifications.

    9..2 Testin shall be carried out in the &ite laboratory.
