AWQ 3MI – Landscape Photography Assignment

This photography assignment is what I like to call “landscape with a twist”. Traditional or purest landscape tends to be void of people or man-made objects in the space. It is meant to look at the beauty, uniqueness and vastness of nature. It is often from travels around the world, or love of a particular place that draws a photographer to visually represent the landscapes they experience.

We are going to take a different approach and use landscape in most cases as a back drop for our photography.

There are 5 different example categories above that use landscape in some form or another. They are:

1. A man-made structure in landscape (buildings, fences, bridges)2. Words or signage in landscape3. Household object in landscape4. Movement in landscape5. Sky-scape in landscape

Assignment

The following criteria must be met for this assignment:

1. Of the 5 above examples select 2 that you find interesting as potential photography shoots. 2. 10 photographs are to be taken for your selected category (2 sections=20 photographs).3. The 10 images should show progression and or tell a story of what is happening in the series

of images. Examples of this expectation would be: Are the objects moving through the depth of field over the progression of the images? Are they moving further into the background or closer to the foreground? Are you photographing the object in macro mode and then moving through to landscape mode? Is the lighting on the scene changing from day to night as the pictures progress?

4. The mentioned photographs should each be labelled according to the theme, or titled to add to the theme chosen.

5. All images should be submitted in JPEG format into the appropriately labelled sub folders within the project folder. (Refer to your mark sheet)

6. Photoshop Elements editing and manipulation applied to add to the story being told. 7. Slideshow presentation – One of your categories is to be made into a slideshow to present to

the class.

For the slideshow:

1. Put your chosen images for the slide show into the necessary sequence. 2. Add music to help enhance the visual story told by your photographs. Think of the mood you

want to set or the feelings you want to evoke from the viewer.3. An alternative to music would be spoken word narrating the story.
