Calibration Sign standards in all required colors with retroreectivity levels engineered to

match the values specifed in MUTCD Table 2A-3. For use by your maintenance personnel

to easily calibrate their vision prior to conducting nighttime sign inspections. As they conduct

the inspection, they mark signs as pass / ail / marginal on their inspection log. I they

encounter a marginal sign, they move on to the Comparison Panel Standards procedure

replace the need to invest in costly portable reectometers and their respective maintenance.

Simply clip the comparison panels to the sign being evaluated and view rom a distance o 

approximately 25 eet with the provided light source.

I the sign is brighter than the comparison panel, the sign exceeds the MUTCD minimum

values and may be kept in service. I the comparison panel is brighter, it indicates the sign

should be scheduled or replacement.

Use o the visual assessment method using these kits is simple,

eective, and ully compliant with FHWA recommendations or sign

evaluation. These kits oer the most cost eective way or an agency

to comply with the new MUTCD regulation on sign retrorefectivity.

FHWA Approved Assessment Method

 The FHWA has developed several dierent approved methods or measuring and

maintaining minimum retroreectivity levels on trafc signage. O these methods,

the Calibration Signs Procedure and Comparison Panels Procedure are two o the

simplest and most efcient ways to properly manage your sign assets without incurring

unnecessary costs. Until now, commercially available calibration signs and panels

have not been available to properly carry out this test method. Through extensive

development work, Avery Dennison has produced calibration signs and panels thatsuccessully serve as tools to enable any agency to achieve compliance by ollowing

the FHWA’s procedures.
