  • FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER MAY 3RD, 2020

Spiritual Listener This time of pandemic can be very stressful and leave us filled with worry and anxiety. In the midst of this uncertain-ty, the Lord comes to offer us His peace (John 20:19). And in offering us His Peace, He invites us to walk with and ac-company each other.

If you would like to talk, share or pray with one of the Dea-cons of the Diocese of Burlington, please respond to the email address below and leave your contact information. One of the deacons of the diocese, skilled in the art of spir-itual listening, will then reach out to you. Please contact us at: [email protected]

May the Peace of Christ be with you.

Liturgy of the Hours/Office of the Dead The Spiritual Works of Mercy direct us to pray for the living and the dead. During these uncertain days, we pray for all those affected by this pandemic, but in a certain way, have the responsibility of praying for those who have died from complications of coronavirus and for those who mourn for them. We pray especially for those who have no one to pray for them. The Liturgy of the Hours is prayed through-out the day, marking the hours of the day and seasons of the year as sacred. Ordained ministers make promises to pray the Liturgy of the Hours faithfully each day, but the prayer is open to all the faithful. Provided for our common prayer during this time is Morning Prayer (Lauds) upon waking, Evening Prayer (Vespers) late afternoon until even-ing, and Night Prayer (Compline) upon retiring for the night. The Office of the Dead can be prayed any day of the week.

Follow this link https://vermontcatholic.org/ministries-programs/evangelization-catechesis/spiritual-resources-for-covid-19/ to follow along with the videos for each prayer.

KEEPING SUNDAY SACRED Although public Masses have been suspend-ed in our diocese, there are still many ways we can give ourselves and our families to the Lord on Sunday.

If you are living on your own, please remember that your prayers are joined with the mystical Body of Christ, on heaven and on earth — prayer is always an invitation to enter into community.

Go to our website www.westrutlandcatholic.org or the Diocesan website at www.vermontcatholic.org for resources.

Fr. Vale’s Office Hours are from 9am - Noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays.

Phone: - 802-438-2490 email: [email protected].

    2. Friendly Calls: Over the next couple of weeks, Church Representatives will be calling you just to see how you all are doing and how we can help you. If anyone calls asking for donations or any such private matter, it is not coming from us or the Diocese. Please do not respond to such calls.

    3. Thank you all for being so faithful in your giving at this time. We will continue to accept your offertory envelopes via the mail, or you may sign up for Online Giving. To do so click the Online Giving tab on our home webpage at www.westrutlandcatholic.org.

    4. Support: During this time of uncertainty, it is necessary not only for each of us to be attentive to directives that will hopefully lessen the physical/medical impact of the virus; we must also be observant of friends, neighbors and others in our community. If you become aware of some-one who is struggling or might need assistance, please call the rectory at 438-2490. Families may be in need of food, supplies or possibly pickup and delivery of needed medical supplies or other necessities. If we are made aware of such need, we can make arrangements to get them the help they need. Thank You.

    5. First Steps: Mother's Day is only a couple weeks away and I think we will all be celebrating mothers from a dis-tance. Strange. Mother's Day is also the time when First Step usually holds its Baby Bottle Drive in the churches. It is our biggest fundraiser of the spring and we are needing to be creative. We have decided to go ahead with the drive and do it virtually. Will you help us? I know it is a difficult time for many people financially, as well as for the churches, and I always encourage people to tithe first, and take care of their families. But I also want to give people the opportunity to support First Step if they are able. If you are able, set aside some of your spare change or cash in a zip lock baggie, bottle, or whatever container you choose, from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day. You may drop off your collection after Father’s Day, June 21st, 2020, at the Parish Office. Thank you for your sup-port.
