“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.” - Charles R. Swindoll
This week, we explore the virtue of kindness. Kindness is showing others we care and
doing something to make their lives better. Kindness is being thoughtful about perople’s
needsand showing compassion to people who are sad or require help. Being kind is
also taking the time to treat ourselves well. Please consider taking a few minutes to
discuss being kind with your child/ren over the next week.
Today we farewell Mrs Alana Fitchen who has accepted the acting position of Principal
Education Officer Student Services, working out of the Rockhampton Office of the
Department of Education. The work Alana and her Neighbourhood Centre Team have
undertaken over the past few years has set her in excellent stead to lead the agenda
of inclusion across the Rockhampton and Gladstone geographic areas. A statewide
process will soon be underway to recruit and select an acting Head of Inclusion for the
remainder of 2019. Please join me in congratulating Alana on this wonderful opportunity
to extend her leadership capability.
Following the Autumn Vacation, Ms Dianne Stace will be taking leave for the remainder
of 2019. Mrs Lyn O’Farrell will assume Ms Stace’s role of Head of Reading in her absence.
A recruitment process for an additional Classroom Teacher for Year 2/3O for the
remainder of the year is currently under way. Ms Stace is commended and
congratulated for the outstanding work she has undertaken in making reading front
and centre, inspiring learners to develop a positive attuitude and enjoyment of reading
and developing the capability of Staff to deliver quality and consistent reading
programs through coaching, modelling and support. If you see Ms Stace during her
remaining time with us, please consider thanking Ms Stace for the amazing work she
has done on behalf of your child/ren.
Next week is Good News Week, the one week each Term we devote to sharing good
news. If you have some good news and feedback to pass on, Staff would love to hear
from you. Look out next week for emails, postcards, telephone calls, SMS messages and
special letters. Next Friday, our 2019 Seniors and Student Leaders will be officially
inducted at a special Assembly, commencing at 8:45 a.m. in the Assembly Area.
Special guests will be in attendance to assist with the ceremony, followed by a Morning
Tea with parents, carers and relatives.
Until next week,

contexts including focused teaching and learning, play, real life situations, investigations and routines
and transitions. Learners will retell events of a familiar story using text structure and repetition.

they reflect human qualities. Learners will create an animal character to be included in a literary text,
discussing their choices in an interview.
Our learners will read, view, listen to and analyse a range of texts to

Learners will demonstrate their understanding of persuasive texts by examining
ways persuasive language features are used to influence an audience. They
will use this knowledge and language to create their own persuasive text.
Learners will present their persuasive text to an audience of their peers.

including language features and devices, audio effects and visual composition in advertisements and
their impact on the target audience. Learners will use appropriate metalanguage to describe the effects
of persuasive techniques used and report these to peers. Learners will use word processing and
multimedia to manipulate text and images to create an effective composition. Learners will write and
present a news report using persuasive language to influence their audience.
Our learners will listen to, read and view a variety of news reports and
advertisements from television, radio, print, digital media and the internet.
Learners will identify and analyse bias in media reports and evaluate the
effectiveness of language devices that represent ideas and events with the
intent to influence an audience.

language combine to persuasive effect and demonstrate their understanding of advertising texts’
persuasive features through the creation of their own digital multimodal advertisement and an
explanation of their own creative choices.
