Mrs. Johnson’s Newsletter October 3, 2016
Conferences-We will have parent/teacher
conferences at the end of the month. I will send out
a sign-up sheet later this week or the beginning of
the following week.
Sounds of the Week-This week we will be focusing
on the /n/ sound like nail and /m/ like in milk.

Writing- Our writing process: 1. Think of an idea 2.
Kid Write 3. Draw about it 4. Adult writing. This is a
list of things we have discussed in our writing.
Sentences always start with a capital letter. Spaces
are put between our words. The letter I is always
capital when it’s alone. Periods are used when you
are making a statement. Question marks are used
when you are asking a question. Names of people
are capitalized.
Reading- This week we will be reading Goldilocks
and the Three Bears. Our focus will be questioning
and sequencing of events.
Math- Students will use comparative language to
describe the comparison of 2 numbers up to 20.
Students are expected to read and write the
numbers 0-20 and use written numbers 0-20 to
represent the amount within a set.
Science-We will be learning how heating and cooling
can change objects. Heating materials can cause
them to melt or change in some other way. Cooling
materials can cause them to freeze or change in
some other way. We will record our observations
about how materials are changed by heating and
cooling.
Social Studies-This week we will be learning

Practice letters and sounds daily if your child
still hasn’t mastered them. Sort capital and
lower case letters. Recognize and order numbers
0-20. Counting to 100 and counting backwards
from 20. Practice weekly sight words. Please
make sure that you are reading with your child
for at least 15 minutes a night. Your child not
only needs to read (if he/she is capable) but
he/she needs to be able to hear books being read
fluently and with intonation.
