Matter is anything that has

mass and takes up space.

Molecules are particles that are

made up of two or more atoms of the same or different elements.

The three typical forms of matter are:

solids, liquids, and gases; the states of water are: ice (solid), liquid water, and vapor (steam)

Solids- state of matter with a definite shape and

volume

Liquids- state of matter with a definite volume but no

definite shape; Liquids take the shape of their container!

Gases- state of matter with no definite volume or

shape; examples: water vapor; steam

Evaporate: the changing of a liquid to a gas

States of water can change when a change of temperature is involved.

Increase the Temperature--- solid to a liquid & liquid to a

gas

-the shape or form of a substance becomes

different, but the properties of the substance stays the same; it’s a change in the size, shape, or state of matter that does NOT CREATE A NEW KIND OF MATTER;

-Example- changing water into ice, or ice melting into water, water boiling into a vapor

Measurement is finding a number that shows

the size or amount of something. There are two main “Systems of

Measurement”: Metric and US Standard.

that uses multiples of 10.

Length: 1 cm= 10 mm, 1 m= 100 cm, 1 km= 1,000 m

Volume: 1 L= 1,000 mL

Mass: 1 kg = 1,000 g
