Monitoring Our Behavior

Our classroom will be using a behavior pocket chart

to monitor classroom behavior.

Each student will have a slot on our behavior

chart. In each slot will be four color cards (blue, green,

yellow, red). Each student will start with

blue at the beginning of each day.

Behavior Slips• Each time a student moves to

the next color card he/she will be required to fill out a BEHAVIOR SLIP.

• Each behavior slip will be sent home to be signed by a parent/guardian and returned the very next day.

• If a student fails to turn in the behavior slip the next day, he/she will automatically lose recess for the day.

• Students are expected to be responsible for notes sent home.

• If the behavior slip is still not returned by the second day, the student will have to call home to explain what has happened.

Assignments/Responsibility

• If a student fails to turn in an assignment when it is due, they will automatically be sent to the next color card. Completing all assignments on time is EXPECTED in third grade.

Conduct Grades• At the end of each week, the weeks

conduct grades will be averaged together for a weekly conduct grade.

• For example:– A student who receives the following scoresMonday 100%, Tue. 80%, Wed. 100%, Th. 60%, Fri. 100%- Would have an 88% as their conduct grade for the

week.- At the end of each nine weeks, all

weekly averages will be averaged together to give the students conduct grade for the nine weeks.

Severe Clause

• The severe clause goes into effect when a student demonstrates severe behaviors such as verbal and/or physical abuse to a fellow student or teacher. If this should happen, the student skips all other levels of color and automatically is sent to red. They will then be given an office referral. The administrator will determine the consequence for the behavior. The student’s conduct grade will be given a 40% for the day.

Homework Policy• While your child is in third grade, they will be expected to

complete homework assignments and projects on time. I strongly feel that students should have no more than 30 minutes of homework assignments per night, if students have understood the material presented during class time. As a result, all homework will be meaningful and serve the direct purpose of reinforcement of important material.

• Assignments and projects will include, but are not limited to: reading assignments, language assignments, spelling assignments, math assignments, science assignments, Alabama History assignments, and various classroom projects.

• I will EXPECT that ALL assignments WILL BE turned in on time! It is important to foster a sense of responsibility in our children, and I believe by holding students responsible for their work and actions we are helping them develop into responsible students and in the future young adults.

Homework Slips• Parents will be made aware of late

assignments by receiving a Missing Assignment Slip. The slip must be returned to Mrs. Davis by the following day, or the student will move their behavior card to green (refer to behavior policy).
