Welcome 2017
Dear Parents,
Welcome to our classroom! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.
My name is Mrs. Missy Ripley. I have been teaching for 17 years. I can’t wait for this
exciting year!
I greatly enjoy working with children, especially at the Kindergarten level. The
students are so eager to learn and get excited about their accomplishments. I will take
your child into my room, as if he or she were my very own. I look forward to working as a
team with you and your child, so that he or she will have a successful year!
I know it is going to be a great year. I look forward to meeting all of you on
September 5th!
I have included some important information below to help get our year off to a good start.
*Supplies: below is a list of supplies that your child will need. Please label all of your child's
belongings except the supplies we share.
-Label
Backpack that is large enough to hold a folder, library book, snack, and other items
that they may need to bring to school.
Headphones for computer lab- Please put them in a large zip lock bag and label
them with your child's name. They don't have to be an expensive pair.
Art shirt (old shirt)- Please label the shirt with their name. The students will be
painting in art. Please be sure that it is not too large. We don't want it to get in their
creative space!
Blunt-end scissors
Pencil box or pencil bag- Please make sure it can hold 2 pencils, a box of crayons,
a glue stick, scissors, and an eraser.
-Please do not label. We will be sharing these.
6 glue sticks
2 boxes of Crayola crayons- 24 pack
Pack of yellow #2 pencils
2 dry erase markers
2 pink (or any color) large erasers (not the cap or dry eraser kind)
*Go home notes: If you are picking your child up, please send a note. If I do not have a
note, your child will go home on their assigned bus.
*Change of clothes: Please make sure that your child has a change of clothes that include
socks and underwear. They can be put in a large ziplock bag and kept in their backpack.
Many accidents can happen at school- lunch spills, playground mud, toileting accidents,
etc. This will save considerable time and trips to school for parents. (Remember to change
them as the seasons change.)
*Healthy snack- We will have snack in the morning. Please send in one snack that will not
be messy and will give your child the energy they need for their day. Snacks such as
raisins, crackers, cut up veggies, fruits, and granola bars make great snacks. They are
welcome to bring a water too, but please no juice. We have a carpet and if it spills, it will
be a mess. Please no chips, candy bars, or cookies.
*Lunch money- Please send in lunch money in a baggie, change purse, or envelope
labeled with your child's name. You may also wish to pre-pay for their lunch by sending in
a check payable to "School Lunch Account" or pay online at
http://www.payschools.com/user-login.asp . If your child is buying lunch, please discuss
the choices with them the night before. Breakfast is also available each morning.
*Paperwork- There will be many papers to fill out and return the first week of school.
Please check your child's folder for them. Please return the papers as soon as possible by
putting them in your child's folder.
*Recess- We will try to get outside for recess every day that the weather permits, please
make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. They have to have closed
toe shoes with a back to go on the wood chips.
Between now and the beginning of the year, if you have any questions, please let me
know. I am here to help in any way I can. My email is [email protected] .
Please don’t hesitate to send an email and I will get back to you as soon as I can. I am
looking forward to a great year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Missy Ripley

This is going to be an exciting year!! This year you will have two teachers! Mrs. Finnerty
will be teaching you Math, Social Studies, and Science. Mrs. French will be teaching you ELA
(reading, writing, grammar, and spelling). You will switch classes once a day.
We are looking forward to working with you this year! It would make us very happy if you
would continue reading books over the summer. Try to read all types of books, such as comics,
magazines, scholastic news, chapter books, or any books from our Horseheads Library! Keeping
a writing journal of all the fun things you do over the summer is another way to keep improving
those writing skills! Making your own flashcards is a great way to practice addition and
subtraction facts this summer.
