IAC Accreditation... An excellent choice for meeting the January 1, 2012 CMS accreditation requirement

The IAC is here to be Your Partner In Quality, offering a friendly, helpfulapproach to achievingaccreditation for yourimaging facility. Each modality has clinicaland administrative staffto assist throughoutthe process. For moreinformation, contact usat 800.838.2110 or visit www.intersocietal.org.

Note: The details included within this brochure are specific to accreditation offered by the IAC for MRI, CT and Nuclear Medicine/Nuclear Cardiology/PET facilities.

Why Choose IAC?When the time comes to apply for or renew your imaging facility’s accreditation, consider the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC). With over 20 years of imaging accreditation experience, the IAC offers multi-modality, nationally recognized accreditation programs. The accreditation standards apply to imaging centers, departments within medical centers, hospitals and private offices. The IAC’s multi-modality approach to accreditation includes involvement from both physicians and technologists.

Multi-Modality AccreditationSpecific to “advanced diagnostic imaging” as defined by CMS for the January 1, 2012 accreditation mandate, facilities performing MRI, CT and Nuclear Medicine/Nuclear Cardiology/PET can efficiently apply for each of these modalities through the IAC.

IAC Online AccreditationFree access to Online Accreditation is available for use by facilities when applying for accreditation. The IAC’s user-friendly, online application format features secure, 24/7 access to accreditation data for multiple users, paperless submission and data sharing which enables efficiency for facilities applying in more than one modality (i.e., MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine).

Competitive Accreditation FeesThe specific fees for each type of accreditation are detailed in this brochure under IAC Programs: At A Glance. Several aspects of the IAC pricing structure offer large cost savings:

Comprehensive Case ReviewApplicant facilities are required to submit sample cases demonstrating pathology, and benefit from a critical, peer review of the submitted images and the corresponding final reports.

Understanding the IACAccreditation ProcessToday’s health care organizations are held to high levels of accountability — by peers, by the general public and by Medicare and other payers. The IAC accreditation programs offer a means by which imaging facilities can evaluate and demonstrate the level of quality imaging and patient care they provide.

Following is a concise summary of the key components of the IAC accreditation process:

The Accreditation ProcessThe process of applying for accreditation takes time and requires proper planning, organization, attention to detail and utilization of all available resources. The accreditation process consists of these steps

The StandardsAs the basis of the accreditation programs, theStandards are an extensive document defining the minimum requirements for imaging facilities to provide quality imaging and patient care. The published Standards for ICAMRL, ICACTL and ICANL are available, free of charge, for review and download from the corresponding website. TheStandards are to be used as a reference when completing the Online Accreditation application and can be accessed on the division websites.

The Review Process andAccreditation DecisionsFollowing a comprehensive in-house evaluation for completeness, each submitted application is assigned to two clinical reviewers who conduct a simultaneous, independent review. Facilities found to be in substantial compliance with theStandards are granted accreditation for a period of three years.

Each newly accredited facility receives a notification letter, accompanied by an accreditation portfolio containing the official certificate(s) bearing the facility’s name and area(s) of testing granted. Additional tools to assist the facility in promoting the achievement including the IAC press release and a CD containing the Seal of Accreditation.

Facilities with significant deficiencies are delayed accreditation and receive instructions for submission of the additional information needed to grant accreditation.
