Welcome Race Fans! Happy race season - I would like to start by thanking all of you, our readers, subscribers, contributors, advertisers and supporters. Our first issue went to print last month and thanks to all of you it went off without a hitch, well there might have been a few small stutter bumps along the way but overall everything went fairly smooth.

The results from our reader survey are in and the majority of you said you want to see more race results and more photos.Watch in the coming months we are going to do our best to accomodate you !! At this point in time MRA is obviously not big enough to list all of the race results in the district, but keep those subscriptions coming and one day soon our paper should be able to cover all of your district events.

There were also some requests for old race results and statistics, unfortunately there are not a lot of resources available for that type of information - if there is anyone out there with access to stats and records we would love to hear from you.

This years race season has started off great. The weather has been fantastic and the local tracks are getting great turnouts. Let's all help to keep our sport strong by racing responsibly,by joining your local district and by supporting your local dealers and track owners. Again please send us your comments and suggestions and we'll see you at the races.

AMA SANCTIONED

For 2002, both the KX125 and 250 have been further refined with changes to the engines to increase power and revised suspension to dial in the ride. Also the KX85 returns after an incredible debut year in 2001 where is won it’s share of amateur championships and was named Best Mini-Motocrosser by Motocross Action magazine. This mighty motocrosser is the answer to championship dreams. Followed by the mid-sized KX100 which incorporates many of the KX85 improvements. They will definitely be front runners on the amateur scene. The mightiest of minis is the full-featured KX65 for those who want to eventually make the transition to the bigger minis. It has revisions to the frame and suspension for improved performance. Having the KX60, KX65, KX85, and KX100 to choose from, the future stars of the sport can graduate to each level as they develop their skills and ambitions. The big-bore KX500, nine-time winner of the famed Baja 1000 and choice of bike for champion Team Green® riders Destry Abbot and Brian Brown, continues its reign as the king of the open-class motocross bikes. Its reputation for class leading performance has made it a legend in its own time, but check it out for yourself.

To maximize airflow and release the hidden power in your race nike, replace your stock intake valve with a Boyesen RAD Valve.

Integrated into the seamless, tenzalloy chamber is a quadrant of aerodynamic directional dividers. This patented, dyno-proven system power channels the charge evenly for instant, explosive movements of air at velocities of up to 500 MPH. Intelligently controlled by a set of Pro Series Reeds, you’ll get maximum flow velocity across the entire RPM range, and at all throttle settings.

Each Boyesen RAD Valve is unique — tailor-made to a single model, year and displacement. While other aftermarker valves might change flange sizes or bolt patterns, they’re basically generic — and require you to irreversibly cut your intake boot to install! But with the RAD Valve, there are no compromises in power, no modifications needed.

A true, bolt-on power boost: no kidding, no cutting.

The 1st Ruleof Two-Stroke Performance:More Air = More PowerOnly maximum air intake, correctlyaccelerated and distributed into the crankcase can deliver maximum power.

the Boyesen GuaranteeEvery Boyesen product comes with a money back guarantee. If you are not completely satisfied with any Boyesen product, return it for its full refund.

An Intake Valve the Size of Your Fist Delivers Air with the Power of a Tornado

• 8 “Plotts Dominate at Doublin”

Round 1: 2002 THOR/Parts Unlimited Northeast Classic Motocross SeriesDOUBLIN GAP MOTOCROSS PARk, NEWBURG, PA, MARCH 24, 2002

If one is to use the great racing of the first round of the

2002 THOR/Parts Unlimited Northeast Classic to get an

idea what the rest of the season will be like, well then, its

going to be a GREAT season! Upwards of 900 riders came

out to the Doublin Gap Motocross Park in early Spring for

the first round of the Northeast Classic. Mother Nature

helped out by providing a dry, mild but overcast day. Track

conditions were good but a track gets pretty rough after so

much racing.

Rossini Racing Products backed rider, Damien Plotts took

home the lion’s share of the Pro/Expert purse as he

finished with perfect 1-1 rides in both the 125 and 250

Open A classes. If that weren’t enough, Plotts also had

an epic battle with RRP teammate, kevin Crine in the

Over

25 A class where they traded wins with Crine earning the

overall with his 2-1 rides to Plotts 1-2. Plotts led most of

the second moto until the hard charging Crine caught and

passed Plotts late in the race to lay claim to the overall in

the Over 25 Open A class.

In the 125 A class, there were so many riders that 2

qualifiers were run. The top 20 riders from each would

move on to the final moto of 40 gates. No last chance

qualifiers were run due to time constraints. The 125 A

class wasn’t the only class to have qualifiers, as many

as eight classes ran qualifiers to reduce their fields

to 40 gates.

In the first 125 A class qualifier, Yamaha thumper pilots

Jeremy Cook and Casey Clark rounded the first turn ahead

of the pack followed by Plotts, James McNeill and Gregory

Panart. By the time the leaders exited the expert only

section on lap two, Clark was alone out front with Plotts

moving up to second, Cook dropped to third and Crine

was fourth after relegating McNeill to fifth. Plotts went

extremely wide in the turn following the finish line at the

start of lap three and used the extra real-estate to get

a better run-up for the following step-down jump

and to make the pass on Clark for the lead. Plotts

then quickly put some distance on Clark. Plotts

took the checkered flag with a three and a half second

advantage. Rounding out the top five were Clark, Cook,

Crine and Aaron Day.

Bromley Suzuki’s Barry Carsten led the pack off the start

in the second 125 A class qualifier trailed by Nick Mowry,

Gene Stull, kevin Brodsky Jr., and Tom Welch. Mowry

didn’t take long to relegate Carsten to second on the

infield section of the racecourse on lap one. But Carsten

had the expert section whoops dialed in and made the

pass back for the lead on lap two. But Mowry would just

come right back and take the lead again, three turns later.

This went on for the following lap as well until Carsten

finally made a pass on Mowry stick near the end of lap

three. Carsten held on to the lead and got the win with

Mowry, Stull, Welch and Brodsky trailing.

When the gate dropped for the final 125 A class moto, it

was the Suzuki of Carsten who earned holeshot honors but

Plotts quickly relegated Carsten to second. Plotts quickly

pulled out to a four second lead by the start of lap two.

Rounding out the top five were Carsten, Day, Stull and

Crine. Plotts lead was a good six seconds by the last lap.

Carsten and Day held on to second and third while Crine

passed Stull for

for second place in the

second 250 Open A class

Northeast Classic Series.

RRP’s Kevin Crine (47) and Yamaha pilot, Jeremy Cook (360) battle just outside the top five in the first 250 Open A class moto at round 1 of the 2002

fourth and then got Day in third. Then Stull passed Day and

Day found himself in fifth. Plotts took the checkered flag

with a five second advantage followed by Carsten, Stull,

Crine and Day. Plotts 1-1’s earned him the overall with

Carsten finishing second and Stull third overall.

Plotts, aboard the new Honda thumper, blasted off the gate

quickly and led the pack out of the first turn in the first 250

Open A class moto. In tow were Mowry, Stull, Charlie Ellis and

Welch. After the start of lap two, the top two were unchanged

but behind them Welch passed Stull for third place, dropping

Stull to fourth and Ellis, who just moved to the expert ranks

for the 2002 season, was holding his own in fifth.

Plotts was flying out front on the thumper and had a

10-second lead by the last lap. Plotts managed to add

another second to his lead by the checkered flag. Rounding

out the top five were Mowry, Stull, Carsten and Welch.

Plotts managed to make getting the holeshot look

relatively easy aboard the Honda thumper in the second

and final 250 Open A class moto. Trailing were Stull, Crine,

Clark and Carsten. After two and a half laps, Plotts had a

four second lead with the top five remaining unchanged

until lap three where Crine passed Stull to take second,

dropping Stull to third. Mowry was up to fourth and Clark

dropped to fifth. Plotts held on to get the second moto win

just ahead of his hard charging teammate, Crine. Rounding

out the top five were Stull, Mowry and Carsten.

Plotts topped the 250 Open A class podium via his perfect

1-1 score while Stull’s consistent 3-3 rides earned him the

runner-up spot of the podium. Mowry rounded out the

podium by virtue of his 2-4 score.

3 the Girls ClubHey girls, last months survey results are in... Name That Part turned out to be pretty interesting. Here's what we got. You may want to grab last months issue to refer too and follow along.

#1 was the clutch, some of us said the brake, or the lever#2 was the front brake, some said the clutch or gear shifter#3 was the throttle, some said the gas, (which is right), some also said the hand grip.#4 was the kill switch, some said the start button, someone else thought it was the turn signals, (good try)#5 was the fuel petcock, what is that anyway? some of us thought it was the oil gauge and gas switch.#6 was the choke/carburetor, isn't that the off switch? some said the ignition#7 was the front brake hub, any one who said it was anything with the brake, that sounded good to me.#8 was the exhaust, OK, muffler and tail pipe sounds close enough.#9 was the gear shifter, any one who said brake or foot peg would definitely be going no where fast, and#10 was the kick stand and we ALL got that one right.

I hope you enjoyed the survey, it was a lot of fun trying to name those parts. I'm really looking forward to getting out there and meeting and talking to you gals who trek to the track each week. What I'd like to hear are your stories about your guy, and how well, or, how poor his racing season is going so far this year. Like maybe his "bloopers", and of course I'm gonna keep everything confidential, so you don't even have to sign your name. Please don't be afraid to e-mail me even the smallest of details or feel free to write something incredibly great or nice about 'your special racer' and maybe he'll have something 'incredibly nice' to say about you too. Have fun at the track and use that sunscreen, it'll save you from some pretty awful sunburn...

See ya soon and write me at: [email protected] or drop a line atP.O. Box 122, Conestoga, PA 17516

AMA Pro-Racing & Clear Channel announce agreement and 2003 SchedulePickerton, Ohio – AMA Pro Racing and Clear Channel Entertainment's Motor Sports division today announced a new, seven year agreement for the 2003-2009 AMA Supercross seasons...

... extending the 28-year relationship between the two organizations. The agreement provides that AMA Pro Racing will continue to sanction all supercross motorcycle races produced and promoted by Clear Channel Entertainment in the United States.

After lengthy discussions, both groups concluded that working together was in the best interest of supercross riders, fans, sponsors, television viewers, race teams, AMA Pro Racing and Clear Channel Entertainment, and positions supercross for significant future growth.

Charlie Mancuso, president of Clear Channel Entertainment's Motor Sports division, said, "We are proud to announce the continuation of our long-standing relationship with AMA Pro Racing, and are thrilled to focus all of our efforts on taking the sport of supercross to the next level and beyond. Our job is to work hand-in-hand with AMA Pro Racing to continue the rapid growth and development of the most successful motorcycle racing series in the world. We want to thank the riders, fans, race teams and sponsors for all of their patience and support during the past few months."

PJ Harvey, chairman of AMA Pro Racing, said, "The last few months have felt a bit like a lap around a supercross track - fast, furious and with its fair share of bumps. But in the end, we have come to realize that continuing our relationship with Clear Channel Entertainment most effectively meets the needs of AMA Pro Racing to continue growing the sport. We're very excited to continue working together with Clear Channel and share Charlie's sentiments that it's time to focus on the future."
