He was born October 12, 1921 in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, the son of the late Ulysses and Alice Porter. Stanley was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He served as a Platoon Sergeant in the South Pacific during World War II and was awarded the Silver and Gold medals. Stanley was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for many years, and was an avid boater. He was the owner of Community Barber Shop in Chicago for many years, and attended Kennedy-King Community College throughout his later years. Stanley was a loving father to the late Patricia McDowell, Stansby (Selena) Porter and Gregory (Holly) Porter; and the cherished grandfather to Robert McDowell, Kamaria Porter, Myles Porter, and Tialynn Porter. A visitation will be held Monday, June 22 from 10 a.m. until the time of the prayer service at 12 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W Main St, Barrington. Burial will be held privately at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.

    Stanley Porter, of Chicago, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, at the age of 98.

    He was born October 12, 1921 in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, the son of the late Ulysses and Alice Porter.

    Stanley was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He served as a Platoon Sergeant in the South Pacific during World War II and was awarded the Silver and Gold medals.
