Guru Purnima/Vyasa Purnima (Thu, July 30)

The full moon day of the Hindu month of Ashada is Guru Purnima, also known as Vyasa Purnima. It is one of the most auspicious days and is considered Vyasa Jayanthi day. Vyasa not only wrote the Mahabaratha, but also the Srimad Bhagavatam. He compiled the Vedas into four texts: Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Saama Veda, and Atharva Veda and wrote the Puranas. Vyasa is considered the first and the ulti-mate teacher, Guru. In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna says, “Of the sages, I am Vyasa”. It is considered highly meritorious to come to the temple and give reverence on this day.

This year Vyasa Purnima is on July 30th. Please join in the Satyanarayana puja at 7:00pm.

Brahmotsavam Highlights (Jun 12-14, 2015) The first Brahmotsavam at the Sree Venkateswara Temple in Richfield to celebrate the manifestation of Lord Sree Venkateswara from Jun 12-14 was a grand success with enthusiastic participation of hun-dreds of devotees. The festivities during the solar month of Vrishabha included Dhwaja-Arohanam, homa twice each day, the majestic Garuda seva, the glorious Sahasra Deepalankarana Seva, Thirumanjanam (Abhishekam) with the holy water from the homa kumbhas sanctified by the Veda mantras and finally concluding with Dhwaja-Avarohanam (descent of the flag). While Dhwaja-Arohanam signifies welcoming the devathas, the Dwaja Avarohanam symbolizes giving farewell to Brahma and other devathas including the ashta-

dikpalas (the rulers of eight directions) and asking them to comeback soon for the next festival.

BHAJAN CLASSES

There will be open Bhajan classes held twice a month in the Temple Auditorium during the Prajna class,

from about 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM on the second and fourth Sundays, starting in February and ending in

June. Srivishnu Pasumarthy has kindly agreed to teach these Bhajans. There will be a fee of $116 charged by

the Temple to students who do not currently attend Prajna. For further details, please click here.
