Originally, my husband and I planned on making the trip on board the Mauretania, but we decided to wait a few months so we could make the crossing aboard the luxury liner Titanic. Married just a few months, Pekko and I decided to leave Finland and start a new life in America. Although we were booked as third class, we still enjoyed many “extras” on board and had quite a time in our little group. After a couple of days at sea we settled into a routine: attending church services after breakfast, strolling the decks, and during the evening playing games in the third-class general room.

Tuesday 7th April Research the following: The White Star Line The building of the Titanic (think about the 5Ws) What were the different classes on the Titanic? How was each class different?

Wednesday 8th April Complete the Titanic comprehension activity. (Either print and complete or write the question out and answer on paper.)

1. Write out the sentence and circle the modal verb used. If it rains, you must bring your umbrella and wear your wellies.

2. Write out the sentence and add a modal verb. My brother ________swim all day across the pool.

Mr Lond’s Set 3 English – Main lessons

(Daily for 50 minutes) Monday 6th April As we have been writing letters to people we know

well, I would like you to write one to me! Tell me what you have been doing so far, and don’t forget to make it ‘informal’ and detailed. Do the planning and some of the writing today.

Tuesday 7th April Now complete your informal letter to me – make sure you include lots of detail!

Wednesday 8th April Find a good example of a short, scary story online and read it to yourself. Try to make a list of the things the writer has used to make it scary – list these using bullet points.

Thursday 9th April Come up with a hero character and a villain/scary character for your own story. Draw them and label them as you did with Walter and Sixth Sense from our class book. Use LOTS of adjectives to describe them!

Friday 10th April Introduce the hero by using these prompts to write an opening paragraph;

• Describe the weather (eg; It was a ….day…

• Tell the reader what the hero is doing

• Now describe him/her.

• Lastly, tell the reader what the hero character had decided to do that day that was different to normal. Why were they doing it? Where did they go?
