Find 3 numbers that add up to 45.
I know that 40 + 5 = 45
I need one more number to get three numbers.
I can break 40 into two parts.

20 + 20 + 4 = 45

“What is a reasonable answer for this problem?”
“What operation could I use to solve it?”
“After I have come up with an estimate, I can check my answer to see if it’s correct. If it’s not, I can use what I know and try again!”
