FROM THE OFFICE

We are quickly approaching the end of another exciting year at Lockview School. On behalf of all the staff, we would like to extend a sincere thank-you to our wonderful families and school community for being so supportive of our student programs and initiatives. Working together with such a great staff, students and parent community continues to make our role as Principal and Vice-Principal of Lockview School a truly rewarding experience.

As you know, it takes much planning and organization to make a year successful for students at our school and that includes extracurricular events and activities. We salute the staff and parents who really make it all possible! We appreciate everything they do for our students, school and community! Their dedication and passion ensures that the students of Lockview continue to achieve personal successes academically, athletically and socially.

As we continue to plan for our 2012-13 class organization, it is important for us to know if any students will

RANKIN RUN Kudos Lockview - THANK YOU!

An enormous thank you to all Lockview staff, students, parents and families who participated, donated, volunteered their time and supported this year's Rankin Cancer Run. As a team we raised just over $3500.00 with 120 participants. This gave us recognition in the TOP 10 (9th place) for both participation and fundraising. Way to go Lockview! Thank you for your generous support of our popcorn and fruit kabob fundraisers which collectively raised just over $1100. WOW! Who knew a little bag of popcorn and some fruit on a stick could add up to something so grand? Popcorn is still for sale everyday at last recess until it is gone and the only flavour we are still selling is Butter & Salt. A gigantic THANK YOU goes out to the following parents (Michelle Bundus, Francie Davidson, Colleen Egan, Dianne Jorrey, Diane McIntosh, Jenn Rattray, and Wendy Tompkins) who helped tally Fruit Kabob orders, tally t-shirt sizes and registration forms, and then distribute t-shirts. Thank you also

to Mrs. Allison, who kept the funds in check! You really put the TEAM in TEAM LOCKVIEW. Thank you, thank you, thank you. For all you do and have done to make this year’s TEAM LOCKVIEW such a big success. I think (We believe) it is so important to be a contributing member within our community and believe that the Rankin Cancer Run is a phenomenal cause! ~Ms. E. Andersen

*Office Note: Thank you to Ms. Andersen for her time and

commitment to this amazing initiative!*

LOCKVIEW BLOSSOMED! Lockview’s “garden of song” came

alive with the production "Mrs. Spitzer's Garden” by Edith Pattou, on Thursday, May 10th. We were all

so delighted to see our primary division take part of this very special

musical. Thank you for making this night a very memorable one. Thank

you also to the teachers who put in a huge amount of time and effort to make the concert possible.

RUGBY COMES TO LOCKVIEW!

Mr. Scott and Miss Bezotosny would

like to congratulate the following

students on making the Rugby team:

Abby. M., Alanais. F., Ben. K.,

Brayden. S., Matty. F., Megan. S.,

Sarah. L., Sarah. R., Jake. P., Zoni. A.,

Josh. A., Cele. K., Jayme. T., Alyssa.

W., and Kyle. C. We are looking

forward to a fun and exciting

season, followed by a tournament

on June 14th. Go Leopards!

GRADE 8 GRADUATION

It’s hard to believe that June has

approached us so quickly and we’re

already preparing for Lockview’s

Grade 8 Graduation Night. We look

forward to this very special

occasion, as we celebrate the

elementary learning journey and

anticipate a fresh, new chapter of

learning in high school. Below you’ll

find preliminary information

regarding our Graduation Night.

Our graduation ceremony

for our students and their

parents will be held on the

evening of: Wednesday,

June 27th at 6:00pm, at

Laura Secord Secondary

School. A stand-up

reception will take place

directly following the

ceremony at Laura Secord.

The graduation dance for

our graduates will follow the

reception and will take place

in our gym at Lockview

School. The dance will

commence at 7:30pm and

finish at 9:00pm.

A full rehearsal will take

place for the graduates

during the morning of

Wednesday, June 27th.

While graduation is a very

special event and we do

expect the attire to reflect

this, we do not expect

students to spend large

amounts of money

preparing for this night.

Tuxedos, evening gowns or

extravagant transportation

modes aren’t necessary.

Thank you for your

understanding and support.

This is a very special time, a

milestone in their educational

career and we are very excited to

attend our graduates’ ceremony.

More information will be sent home

to grade 8 families closer to the big

event, but if you have any questions

or concerns, please do not hesitate

to call the school.

*Office Note: This information was

previously sent home to all grade 8s

on May 15th and required a

signature to indicate that

parents/guardians have received

and read the letter. If you have not

returned this portion, please do so

ASAP! Thank you.*

STUDENT PLACEMENT FOR

2012-2013

It appears from the information we

have at this time that there will be

several split grades again next year.

When we form classes a great deal

of consideration goes into the

placement of pupils to provide the

best possible academic and social

environment possible. Some of the

factors considered include: social

maturity, organizational skills,

learning style, ability to work

independently, academic ability,

class dynamics as well as attitude

toward, and commitment to, school

work. We all want what is best for

the children at Lockview School. If

you have a specific request about

your child’s placement for the

coming school year, please submit

them in writing to the attention of

Mr. Blake by June 7th. Parental

requests will be considered in

conjunction with the factors listed

above, although we cannot

guarantee that requested

placements will be fulfilled. Our

goal is to provide a learning

environment in which all of our

students will be most successful.

COUNTING DOWN TO

KINDERGARTEN If you live within the Lockview

School boundaries and have a child

who will be 4 years of age by

December 31, 2012, he/she is

eligible to attend Junior

Kindergarten beginning September,

2012. Please drop in to the school

office and register your child, if you

have not already done so. It is not

necessary to register children who

are currently in Junior Kindergarten

and who will be attending Senior

Kindergarten next fall at Lockview

School. Students will retain their

am/pm placement unless we receive

a request to move them.

Please note that copies of proof of

age by Birth Certificate or Birth

Registration, proof of Immunization

and Health Card are all required to

complete registration. Any legal

documents regarding custody

arrangements are requested as well.

Attention all future Grade 1 French Immersion Students, starting in September! There will be an open house at Sheridan Park School on: Wednesday, June 13, from 6:00pm-7:00pm. Sheridan Park is located at: 114 Linwell Road.

NEWS FROM OUR LIBRARY

Just a reminder to Lockview families

that all library books, textbooks and

classroom resources are due back to

the school no later than: FRIDAY,

JUNE 15TH. We appreciate your help

in ensuring our books are returned.

EQAO TESTING

One last reminder that our students

in Gr.3 and Gr.6 will be writing the

provincial EQAO tests between May

23rd and June 7th. It is important

that students attend school during

this time frame.

REPORT CARDS

Final reports will be sent home

Wednesday, June 27th.

APPROPRIATELY DRESSED FOR

SCHOOL

With the warm weather

approaching students are reminded

that school is a place of work. Short

shorts, cut-offs, tank tops, tube

tops, bare midriffs, muscle shirts, t-

shirts with suggestive messages are

not acceptable. Female students

choosing to wear a strapped top will

have straps that are at least two

fingers wide with no undergarments

showing. Wearing a sweater

overtop of a spaghetti strapped shirt

does not meet our Dress Code

requirements. Students will be

asked to change or cover up if they

wear clothing which is too revealing

(belly buttons, ribs, cleavage,

backsides, under garments). This

type of clothing is a distraction to

our primary goal of learning. Please

be vigilant and discuss this with your

child.
