The class of 2012 has done us proud. It has registered a 5.2% improvement and the province is currently standing at 70%. This implies that out of 47 889 learners who wrote the 2012 Grade 12 examinations 33 504 passed. MEC for Education

It is with great pleasure to once more share with the Province the good news of our improvement in the 2012 Grade 12 results. These are encouraging and inspiring developments spelling out that our Grade 12 intervention programmes are yielding positive results. It is prudent of me to congratulate the Grade 12 Class of 2012 for this sterling performance as we wish them all the best in their pursuit of tertiary education. May all those who are leaving the borders of the Province be good ambassadors in all the campuses of their universities of choice. The whole of Mpumalanga Province is proud of you

and is fully behind you in your endeavours to study and contribute towards the upliftment of its people.

We thus urge you to spur on your academic and professional quest and to return after the completion of your studies to develop the socio-economic status of your mother province, Mpumalanga.

As expected these achievements have been championed out of co-operation amongst stakeholders in Education in an effort to actualise and turn into reality the concept of making education everybody's business. I would like to thank all the stakeholders in education for their input towards the enhancement of learner performance in all grades, including the improved grade 12 performance in 2012.

In the Tanzanian Kijita/Wajita community there is a proverb which says 'Omwana ni wa bhone,' meaning regardless of a child's biological parent(s) its upbringing belongs to the community. This proverb reinforces the reality that Education is a communal task which cannot be mortgaged to a particular section

of society. This calls for all of us to work together and I really appreciate the coming together and pulling in one direction of teachers, parents, learners and the greater community. The difference these efforts have made is evident in the improvement of the performance results. Sisonke Sifundzisa

Sive. While we celebrate the achievements of the Grade 12 Class of 2012, we need to be conscious and sensitive to the challenges, needs and fears of those who have not made it this year. I want to reassure you that Mpumalanga Province has pulled resources together to ensure that you are also given a second chance.

As an inspirational line to those who have not made it, Patton, George S. says, "I don't measure a man's success by how high he climbs but how high he bounces when he hits bottom."

The real challenge is for you to shake yourself up and move on as you learn from the failures of 2012 and pay much attention, focus and energy on making a success of the challenges of 2013.

The pressures of the quest to succeed may be overbearing for some of our learners who did not pass their grades and thus our appeal to parents and members of the community is to be vigilant and take note of unfamiliar behavioural patterns from their children. In an

event where such unfamiliar behavioural patterns are noticed, parents are urged to contact the Mpumalanga Department of Education so that post examination counselling can be offered by professionals within the Department.

Once More, Congratulations to the Grade 12 Class of 2012

The Congress of South African Trade Unions in Mpumalanga welcomes the significant improve-ment in the 2012 Mpumalanga matric pass rate from 64,8% in 2011 to 70% In 2012.

It is worth noting that within a period of three years Mpumalanga has improved it's matric pass rate by a whooping 23% since 2009.

The matric class of 2009 obtained 47,9% , the 2010 matric class recorded a 9% increase to 56,8% , the 2011 matric class improved the pass rate by 8% to 64,8% .

Credit goes to the teachers for their sterling work, commitment and sacrifice, the MEC of Education in the Province for her visionary

stewardship, the School Governing Bodies for their patriotism, the parents for their cooperation and most importantly the learners for having demonstrated a high level of commitment and made it possible for the province to achieve the 5.2% improve-ment.

We congratulate all the stakeholders for this phenomenal and remarkable achieve-ments.

We recommit ourselves to cooperate and collaborate with both the Provincial Government and the Department of Education in the province in striving for a conducive teaching and learning environment where teachers will receive the necessary adequate training and be paid the salaries they deserve and learners will receive education in schools that are well resourced.

We encourage the learners who did not pass not to despair, but to try again and achieve their full potential. Let them be encouraged by the words of wisdom from our icon Nelson Mandela who once said " the greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall."

Finally we congratulate the overall best learner in the province, Mawere Calvin from Bushbuckridge Secondary School who received eight distinctions .

Once again congratulations Class of 2012.

SADTU in Mpumalanga welcomes the 2012 matric results and wishes to thank all the teachers in the province in particular for the improvement from 64 % to 70 %.

We further wish to extend words of appreciation to all teachers in the 8 other provinces for the overall 73% pass mark achieved.

We appreciate the effort put in by teachers in the Bohlabela District which is steadily improving and will soon be on par with the other Districts.

We wish to extol all teachers for their efforts even under difficult and trying conditions. Many previously disadvantaged schools continue to excel without laboratories and libraries.

We wish to thank all officials within the bureaucracy who have supported teachers throughout the year.

We also wish to thank all officials who contribute towards making the Department of Education function efficiently.

We finally wish to congratulate all the learners who passed the examination and wish them well in their future endeavours.

We wish to entreat all learners who did not pass not to give up but to use this as an opportunity to right where they went wrong and explore all avenues provided by the system to acquire a pass.(Abridged Version)

In 2011, Nkomazi Municipality topped all the 18 Municipalities by obtaining 76.2% pass rate. This year it has once again outperformed the others and has registered a pass rate of 77.5% improving by 1,3%. I take this time to request the leadership of all municipalities and traditional institutions to make it their obligation to support schools and ensure that schooling progresses without disturbances within their areas of influence.

Of the 67 circuits in the Province, Amsterdam Circuit is at the top having obtained 87.5%. The most improved circuit is Weltevrede within Nkangala District which improved by 24.5% from 53.8% in 2011 to 78.3% in 2012. The number of circuits performing below 60% has now been reduced from 24 in 2011 to 9 circuits in 2012.We must work harder to ensure that there will be no circuit that performs below 65% this year.

Hoërskool Nelspruit had 203 candidates writing and passing the 2012 Grade 12 exams. Out of these 169 representing 83,3% of them satisfied the requirements for Bachelors programme and 32 for diploma. This makes Hoërskool Nelspruit the overall best school and the school with the most bachelors in the province in 2012.
